Sam Jokich/ Correspondent U.S. flags were placed on veterans’ graves Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Peachtree, continuing a long local tradition.

Not a moment of alone time goes by unnoticed by family members on Mother’s Day.

The Hiwassee Dam was under construction by the Tennessee Valley Authority in the late 1930s. The impact on the county was not only a recreational lake but, more importantly, electricity.

A bounty of food came to the Sharing Center (above) and Moore House Ministries in Murphy (top) thanks to the U.S. Post Office’s annual food drive to fight hunger. This year’s drive resulted in several thousands of pounds of goods to feed the hungry in all of Cherokee County.
