The Hiwassee Dam was under construction by the Tennessee Valley Authority in the late 1930s. The impact on the county was not only a recreational lake but, more importantly, electricity.
A bounty of food came to the Sharing Center (above) and Moore House Ministries in Murphy (top) thanks to the U.S. Post Office’s annual food drive to fight hunger. This year’s drive resulted in several thousands of pounds of goods to feed the hungry in all of Cherokee County. Shown are (from left) mail carrier Gloria Parente, with food pantry volunteers Mike Reid and Gloria Effing.
