Body Unaka – The community is fortunate to have a well organized and functional volunteer fire department, and is proud to recognize our volunteers.
This was the original Porter House Hotel built by Capt. Stephen Porter in 1895. It was a popular stopping place for travelers on the train. Meals were 25 cents, rooms were 75 cents and some were $1. Country ham, eggs and hot biscuits were always served at breakfast with steaming hot coffee. Pictured are guests staying at the hotel.
