Wally Avett/Cherokee Scout Union Gen. William Sherman and staff are shown departing the Henegar House in Charleston, Tenn., in December 1863, having seized the brick home for temporary lodging. It still stands, but it’s in private ownership and not open to the public. Famous painter of military scenes Don Troiana produced this huge work, which dominates the main exhibit room of Hiwassee River Heritage Center in Charleston.
Chatting with some new friends at the Rare Bird Emporium are (from left) Connie Hammond, Vicky Marby, Abigail Hickman, Shawna Crocker and Lynn Tinsley.
