Think positive in a new year

Thank you, Cherokee Scout Publisher David Brown, for your My View column of Jan. 3. What a delightful breath of fresh air.

It takes a truly courageous soul to shine the light of truth in a county with a populace as poorly informed as this one. I just want you to know that there are a few of us out here paying attention.

Thankful for care, kindness

I want to thank my family, friends, and this loving and caring community I live in for all the calls, text messages, cards, flowers, gifts given in memory of Bill, monetary gifts and, of course, your hugs.

Thank you Murphy Medical Center, Dr. Irwin, Darby Cooper PA, Dr. Hardy and everyone on the Med Surge staff for excellent care Bill received and the kindness that was shown to me.

Thank you everyone for the kindness during this difficult time.

May God continue to bless all of you.

Early College great example

My deepest congratulations to Principal Jason Forrister and the staff and students of Tri-County Early College for achieving such success in the “A” rating of the recent N.C. School Report Card for the 2022-23 school year. They are to be commended for their innovations to the curriculum, for their dedication to excellence and their hard work. Well done.

I am very pleased our community has shown that academic excellence can be accomplished in our school system. The Tri-County Early College effort is a point of pride for all of us who value our children’s education. It can serve, with other fine school academic efforts, as an example of other county high schools to pursue the same superior standards.

Furthermore, my hope is that Tri-County’s success will increase the awareness of our citizens to the paramount importance of academics in all our schools. In particular that it will raise the commitment of Cherokee County’s leadership to seek the same academic success, first and foremost, for all our high school students as they plan for the future.

Why are we complaining?

Inflation is not “skyrocketing.” In fact, it is nosediving, going from over 9 percent to just 3.1 percent. Wages are rising
faster.

One big reason inflation has declined is because of lower gas prices. This is because the  U.S. is No. 1 in the world for oil production, by far, pumping out a new record 13 million barrels per day.

There is little a president can do about high inflation as Presidents Ford, Carter and Reagan experienced.

It is the job of the Federal Reserve to control inflation. “The Fed” is not a part of the federal government, but rather an independent entity.

There were 2.7 million new jobs created last year. Unemployment has been below 4 percent for two years. There are 8.8 million job openings.

The stock market recently set all-time record highs.

Manufacturing and construction jobs are increasing.

Now, tell me again, what’s there to complain about?
