Thankful for special event

We want to give special thanks to all of the sponsors for the New Year’s Eve Hometown Celebration at The Worship Tent in Murphy.

Many businesses donated from their stores with gift cards to be given back to the community, while others donated financially to help make this happen. Local churches showed up and volunteered, served and donated to this community in many ways.

It was a great night. God held back the rains, and it was beautiful outside. Eight people were saved and three were baptized.

Thanks goes to Cherokee Guns, Herbal Butterfly, First Baptist Church of Murphy , Catalyst Church – Hayesville, Mountain Office Systems, Jerae’s Treasure, First Freewill Baptist Church – Hayesville, Christ for all People Church, Andrews Subway, Adam & Eve Hair Salon, Church of God – Peachtree, Church of God – Murphy, Mariolino’s Italian Restaurant, Healed & Restored Vessels, Journey Church, Full Throttle Ministries, Julie’s Restaurant – Peachtree, Murphy Building Supply & Home Center, Reborn Ministries – Florida, Wayne’s Feed Store, Cowboys for Christ, Boiling Springs Baptist Church, Jacky Jones Chevrolet, Hampton Inn, Legend’s Steakhouse, Lowe’s, Renewed Hope Ministries, Shepherd of the Mountains church, Sweetgum Baptist Church – Robbinsville and the Cherokee Scout.

Vote Smith for the next sheriff

The sheriff is the most powerful official in the county where he holds office. A sheriff yields the authority to remove federal and state governments where he feels they threaten the safety and constitutional rights of the citizens he is sworn to protect.

A sheriff needs to possess strong moral character and integrity, so he may effectively carry out the office of sheriff, which Cherokee County currently does not have. Sheriffs command warriors, not sheep.

As a Cherokee County business owner of 22 years and myself a retired law enforcement officer, I have had the opportunity to observe Dustin Smith throughout his law enforcement career to date.

Smith holds the above qualities and leadership skills needed to effectively hold the office of sheriff.

Cherokee County deserves qualified leadership, and Dustin Smith needs to be Cherokee County’s next sheriff.

Not working under Biden

Jim Grazis’ comments in the Jan. 5 edition of the Cherokee Scout are a good example of “not seeing the forest for the trees.” He claims the spike in the cost of goods (inflation) is not President Joe Biden’s fault, and he says “look at Europe and other nations, they have inflation, too.”

Well, I don’t want to be like Europe or other nations. I am an American, and until now we have been smarter than other nations.

With Biden at the helm, oil pipelines have been shut down; people have been fired because they didn’t take the jab, even if it violated their religious beliefs; cities are flooded with illegal aliens, forcing us to carry the cost and the schooling of these people; millions of dollars of military equipment was squandered when Biden abandoned Afghanistan; and he has done little to nothing to solve the cargo ships drifting in the ocean waiting to unload.

Jim also says gas prices are rising because of the switch to green energy. Green energy is not ready to be relied upon. Without government subsidy, it would not exist.

I am all for green energy
when it is perfected and cost effective. Our grandparents didn’t shoot their horses when the first automobile was produced; it took time for that industry to evolve.

If you are ready to be around people with some common sense who are patriots, come join us Thursday, Jan. 20, at Comfort Grub, 5:30 p.m. to eat before the 6:30 p.m. meeting; or check out our website, citizensforabetteramerica.com.

Biden needs big changes

I feel sure the offering of the letter writer in the Cherokee Scout on Dec. 22 knew a rebuttal would be forthcoming.

Can the writer tell us what President Joe Biden was able to accomplish in 50-plus years in public service?

Biden said, early on, that he would end the virus in his first year in office. Well, that hasn’t happened. There has been mandates, masks on, masks off for employers, conflicting reports from medical professionals and students of all ages told to have virtual learning one day and in person the next.

I haven’t heard, not once, the president mentioning the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants that have entered the United States. He doesn’t care.

Is the president and/or the vice president helping? I think not. I see reports daily on TV showing large quantities of illegal drugs, by the truckloads, are being stopped by border control.

The president listened to his “good ol’ boy” cronies (yes, every president has had and will continue to have them, including Biden) and decided to get out of Afghanistan, where planning to do that must have taken last place.

I am a registered Democrat, but don’t intend to vote that way in November unless Biden’s policies change drastically.

Inflation. Another big problem where planning has taken a back seat from the president’s policies. It hurts us all, but especially for those who can least afford it.

The buck stops in the president’s office. God bless America.
