America is being judged
I recently spoke before the Nantahala Regional Library board requesting that they remove two books about trans-genderism.
The books gave a positive view of Jazz’s life. Since then, Jazz has become depressed and has gained 98 pounds. His life is in ruins. But the library doesn’t seem to care about Jazz’s new realities. They voted to keep the books and keep the lie going.
When I went into the library to speak, I was shocked to see 30 grandmothers and grandfathers cheering on transgenderism. I could hardly believe my eyes. Thundering applause to those who spoke about the need to protect children by cutting off their genitals. How could they defend child mutilation?
For the next two days, I wept for them and America. America has become exceedingly wicked. Promoting the sexually wicked and lust for war and death has turned America into a sexual perversion and death cult. We have abandoned God, and now we will pay the price for our evils as God judges America.
God is not mocked, that which a nation sows it shall surely reap. God has allowed America to be ruled by a demented Marxist. Our economy is being destroyed. Our energy resources shut down. Violent criminals are now protected, and hooded gangs loot in broad daylight.
Homeless drug addicts defecate on our sidewalks and rob passersby. Millions flood our borders bringing with them diseases, fentanyl, violent criminals and child sex slaves. Ukraine has been given $182 billion, while Americans in Maui receive a one-time check for $700 per household.
Soon there will be COVID lockdowns as President Joe Biden further destroys American businesses. Yet with all these signs of destruction, Americans refuse to repent of their sins and beg for God’s forgiveness.
God’s hand of protection has been removed. America is becoming a wasteland.

The Medal of Honor winner
I recently watched an 81-year-old veteran of the Vietnam War getting presented the Medal of Honor.
In short, he had been a first lieutenant chopper pilot who made a daring rescue of four soldiers at night in July 1968. He risked his life, and the life of his co-pilot, but it was the right thing to do. It was against regulation and protocol. It was a small chopper, and the four he rescued held on to anything that they could just to get out. A true hero.
After his tour of duty, he returned to Chattanooga, Tenn., started a business and has been there since.
He was awarded the Medal of Honor by the current president. When he placed the medal around his neck, the president without a word calmly walked away, leaving the recipient of the award – whose name, by the way is Larry Taylor – standing alone on the podium.
He had wiped a tear from his eye and was standing there alone. He looked bewildered, not knowing what to do next. A loud announcement was made that a benediction was to be said. Keep in mind, he is still standing there alone.
At this point, I turned it off. I’m sure someone helped him and directed him as to what would be the next step. I don’t know because I was disgusted with the way he was treated. Every veteran who watched the presentation should be disgusted, too.
The man deserved the Medal of Honor; evidently his record had been researched and he was found eligible. And the presenter, without a word, calmly turned and walked away.
Can you imagine the thoughts of his family and friends who came and attended with him? I can’t imagine.

Eat right potatoes
The other day my wife, Jane, and I were having lunch at Ingles with some church folks and the subject came up about eating potatoes of all kinds. Jane said, “I have never met a potato I didn’t like.”
I got to thinking what about chips, fried potatoes and frozen French fries – are they good to eat as well? So I did a research, and the only good potatoes come from the produce department. Red potatoes are the best. They are healthy when baked or steamed and prepared without adding much salt. These potatoes can help improve blood sugar, reduce heart disease and boost the immune system. Good news for potato lovers.
The other types of potatoes that come in manufactured with lots of preservatives and salt should be eaten moderately because they really have no nutritional value. Whatever your choice heed the warning labels with wisdom.
I got to thinking how the proper food we consume daily helps us to maintain a healthy body, but I believe with all my heart that maintaining a good relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ is also good for our mind, our heart and soul.
When we daily take in God’s word, it is like good medicine and His word encourages us to read the Bible daily for in doing so, we become more like Jesus Christ, and we also want to serve Him and please Him in all that we do and say. When we take in God’s delicious words, it also strengthens our faith and trust in a God who cannot lie.
Yes, certain potatoes are good for us, others are not. The only recipe for good healthy intake is found in God’s word. Come and partake of God’s grace and feast on the goodness of God’s holy word.

Dems call out Oath Keepers
The Democrats of Western North Carolina are alarmed and disheartened to hear that Sheriff Dustin Smith has been linked to the radical, right-wing, fascist national group called the Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association.
The members of this group claim to hold themselves above the Constitution, the rule of law and the safety of the communities they are charged to serve. In doing so, they break their oath to uphold the Constitution. They have no business in public office.
There is no place in western North Carolina for anti-American hate groups, like the Oath Keepers and others, who had a hand in producing last Saturday’s event in Cherokee County. We do not welcome their seditious ideology here in our community. We will not remain silent as the sheriff, and those he welcomes, seek to destroy our way of life from within.
Our Democratic Party stands with all of those patriotic Americans who believe in the Constitution and the rule of law in the true spirit of our great state motto, “To Be, Rather Than to Seem.”

Big boom is what’s next
Don’t shut down any schools!
We all love neighborhood schools, and they’ll all be full again in a couple years.
The Cherokee County revenue stream is about to double or triple. (Read the newspaper.)
Why are they doubling the size of the casino hotel?
Why is Walmart modernizing/expanding?
The recent boom here is bubble-size, compared to the huge “What’s next?”
Don’t sell; rent it out.
To counter home-schoolers and new charter schools, county schools must improve and provide the best possible education/social experience.
Grab a hammer; it’s time to double Cherokee County’s housing.

Meeting was not extremist
I would like to thank everyone involved who helped to make the Sept. 9 event, “The County Sheriffs America’s Last Hope,” a big success.
Thanks go out to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Dustin Smith, the planning committee – Leroy and Barbara Moffit, and Ron Wright, Citizens For a Better America and all the members, Always On Time Shuttle Service, Jim’s Smokin BBQ for a fabulous lunch and our guest speakers: retired Sheriff Richard Mack of Arizona (founder of the Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association) and Sheriff Dar Leaf of Michigan, First Baptist Church of Murphy for allowing the use of the fellowship hall, all the sheriffs, peace officers and public who attended, and the Honor Guard that started the meeting with our pledge to the flag.
A thank you goes out to U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-N.C.), who was unable to attend but sent an assistant to present Mack with a letter of appreciation and state coin.
For those of you naysayers, there was absolutely no racism and no far-right extremist agenda. The day was all about our Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and how our sheriff is the most important person in our county, or any county, and how he can protect us from tyranny and federal overreach.
Our Constitution is for everyone; it does not matter if you are left, right or anything in between. It was a pleasure, an honor and very inspirational to have Mack come to our neck of the woods.
There is hope for us all if we unite county by county … state by state. Do your own research and stand for our Founding Fathers, our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our constitutional sheriff, Dustin Smith.

Governor’s ‘hit piece’
Gov. Roy Cooper, I had to laugh out loud at your ridiculous hit piece on voter reform. You accuse Republicans of trying to suppress people’s votes and being sexist, racist and whatever other “ist” you can attach for supporting voter ID to ensure the one voting is who they claim to be.
The people of North Carolina overwhelming voted for voter ID years ago, and you vetoed it. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled it was legal. Most states don’t even allow any early voting, including ultra-blue New York.
You say it’s “right-wing fear-mongering” about “near nonexistent” voter fraud. Near isn’t non-existent, it means voter fraud does exist and, in reality, it is bigger than the left claims it to be.
How does splitting the voting board evenly between both crooked parties cause harm?
The one fear-mongering is you. Stop trying to divide the people. United we stand. I think I can speak on behalf of many when I say that I look forward to showing my ID when I get to vote people like you out.

We deserve fair elections
I absolutely love North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper’s guest column in the Sept. 13 edition of the Cherokee Scout. It reveals just how divisive, delusional and deep in La-La-Land he is.
Republicans – and many other sensible, concerned Americans – desire, deserve and should have legal, fair election processes participated in by qualified, legal, living voters. That’s the bottom line.
Yet, Cooper and his cronies and supporters are determined to vilify people who yearn for such important accountability by using “sinister efforts” to demoralize them with questionable ulterior motives.
However, Democrats have commonly questioned presidential election results when not in their favor. Talk about hypocrisy. But that’s the arena Democrats excel in.
Nevertheless, I have to agree with Cooper when he states, “The nationwide Republican war on democracy is raging fiercely in North Carolina.”
By our Founding Fathers, America was established as a republic. So, Republicans rightly have excellent reason to wage an intense battle to save our country’s values.
According to Diffen.com, “usually a republic is a type of representational democracy with some checks and balances enshrined in the constitution that safeguard the rights of minorities. A “pure” democracy would imply the rule of the majority in every sphere of life, without such safeguards.”
From the original version created in 1892 to the current edition, Americans have been proudly acknowledging our political status.
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’’
Maybe we should simply be sorry for folks like Cooper who, because of their ignorance or quest for control, are either deceived and/or opposed to integrity, which should be the lifestyle of every breathing human being.
No opportunity for re-election? No problem. Good riddance, Cooper.
