Ordinance to stop litter
Is Joe Brown Highway the new Cherokee County landfill?
Have you been driving on Joe Brown Highway lately? It is a disgrace how people think it is acceptable to throw trash out their car windows all along the road. The county cleanup crews and volunteers, who are doing an excellent job, are unable to keep up. As soon as they cleaned up the area, mountains of trash are already back in the ditches.
We are well aware that most Cherokee County residents are against zoning restrictions, but how about at least having a No Littering Ordinance with a steep fine and actually enforce it?
Our environment is too beautiful to be disrespected. We only have one earth, and it is not disposable. Trash belongs in a trash can or Dumpster, not on the side of the road, but apparently this is not common knowledge.
It would be beneficial to all Cherokee County residents if this were addressed at the next board meeting of county commissioners.

3 strikes in fridge deal
We had to buy a new refrigerator. Here’s the saga in brief.
We weren’t called in advance as promised.
The driver went to the wrong house, wouldn’t get out of the truck because of a dog, blew his horn, no one came out. He left. Did he think to call us? No.
The store washed its hands of this and told us to call the dispatcher.
After struggling to get the dispatcher to understand the driver went to the wrong house, he agreed to delivering the next day. My wife’s phone was given to call.
I got the call. The driver was at our bridge. First, he refused to cross it. Then he argued that he would get stuck in the mud, then that he wouldn’t be able to turn his truck around. He was abrasive and argumentative beyond reason.
He hung up on me. I called my wife, who went to the bridge. She received his same rude attitude. As she was talking, he turned around, got back in his truck and left. She saw no one else with him, and he was delivering a refrigerator.
After a long call to customer service and a letter saying that I wanted to lodge formal complaint – I can’t go into more detail here because of the 300-word limit – here is the non-boiler plate response I received.
“To make sure all the issues you have had, I have forward the pdf that you sent to them so that you can see this.” What?
On the third attempted delivery, the driver said that the unit we bought was recalled, that the doors cannot be removed because the waterline cannot be reconnected properly and it would leak. Three strikes, you’re out.
This is what you can expect when buying from this franchise.
