Thank you for all help

On Thursday, the home of my brother, Nick Guthrie, burned down. He lost everything, including eight of 10 dogs.

We just wanted to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this devastating time. There are so many people who have reached out to him and us to offer help and support, and it is deeply appreciated. You will never know how thankful we are to each of you.

We would also like to thank all of the first responders, emergency personnel and all of the fire departments who responded that day. We will always remember your kindness and empathy.

Some fire department personnel went above and beyond to keep flames and debris from completely destroying a fish pond that was located directly next to the house. Your efforts were not in vain; the majority of the fish did survive, and it is because of their hard work. I wish we had gotten your names, but just know we are very grateful for what you did.

Again, thank you to everyone. God bless you all.

Compensation for all victims?

I have come across an old article that might make things easier on crime victims, including myself, as I was a target of arson.

Can you please send me a physical address to the Department of Crime Control & Public Safety in Raleigh?

I have a hearing loss, so I can’t access the internet. However, with what I am planning, I can take the good with the bad and make it better.

Willena Helton, Murphy

Editor’s note: That former department today is part of the N.C. Department of Public Safety, which can be reached at 4201 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-4201. Ask about “Crime Victim Compensation.”

What happens in prison cell?

I’m writing to you and the community because on Dec. 1, I was in a holding cell from around 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. before being moved to the back.

During that time, there was a mentally handicap girl in the holding cell across from me. The shift guards were making fun of her, saying crude and rude stuff, which just is not OK.

The guards and staff over jail administration are supposed to look after those who can’t look after themselves. The community really needs to know and understand what really goes on inside the county jail.

Cameras don’t lie. Thank you for your time.

What about stray dogs?

I am writing concerning stray dogs on Fall Branch Road.

There is one home in particular that does not keep their dogs contained. At the present time, a large tan dog is being aggressive with anyone who walks past.

My husband and I adopted this road 10 years ago, and we pick up trash often. The dog is so aggressive, I am now afraid to walk the road. He has attacked another neighbor and her dog. One resident who has to walk past the home carries a baseball bat in fear.

We have called the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office numerous times we even have a Community Watch on Fall Branch (sanctioned by the sheriff’s office), but they offer no help. We have been advised to “carry pepper spray or shoot the dog.”

This dog and others from the same area have also been seen around local chicken coops, and one has even been caught on game camera killing chickens.

We, the residents of Fall Branch Road, are being held hostage by these dogs. No one wants to hurt them.

They are not cared for or fed properly, but the authorities do not seem to care. If there is a solution, we need to know it. So far, nothing had worked.

Scouts thank Cherokee Scout

We wanted to express our gratitude for the article “4th in McCray family reaches Eagle Scout” by Anngee Quinones-Belian, in the Jan. 11, 2023, edition.

We were delighted to have Anngee  cover the story. She did a fantastic article. She was both professional and friendly.

Thank you so much for including this article in the Cherokee Scout.

Lies meant to kill, destroy

Our country is in such terrible condition. We’ve come from being energy independent under President Donald Trump to begging for oil from communist Venezuela under President Joe Biden.

Everything we use is delivered to us using gas and diesel so, of course, prices on everything are skyrocketing. Anyone can see we cannot survive without fossil fuels. This green new deal cannot work, electricity is generated using fossil fuels.

This is a plan to destroy our country for power and money. Other countries are facing bankruptcy, their people starving and freezing to death, but they have a 98 percent compliance on carbon emissions.

This administration has us going in the same direction.

Wake up, don’t believe everything fake media tells you, they are controlled by the same dishonest elites who are rich and do not do what they demand us to do.

They travel in their private jets, putting off more carbon in one trip than an American family in two years. They went to expensive restaurants and hair salons, their children went to exclusive private schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the same time, they shut down small businesses, restaurants and schools that have not yet recovered, some gone forever, by design.

Teachers’ unions push critical race theory, which is a lie designed to distract from what is really going on, telling children as young as age 5 they can decide their own gender. This is insane.

The leftists have taken over the Democratic Party. Voters better wake up. Don’t help destroy your own country.

Satan is a liar and the father of all lies, so when you hear lies, know they are evil, meant to steal, kill and destroy. This is what they are doing to our country.

Cherokee and a House seat

The Cherokee Nation is trying to obtain a Cherokee nation delegate seat in the U.S. House, as promised 187 years ago in 1835.

The treaty that promised this seat was also used for the Trail of Tears, in which multiple tribes were removed from their homelands and placed further west. Many died in the process.

There is much more information on this in these resources:

  • http://cherokeedelegate.com/
  • https://www.britannica.com/event/Treaty-of-New-Echota

If you can I’d like you to show this information, and that you can text DELEGATE to 52886 to contact your representative on the issue.

I feel that if this is shared, it can help bring awareness to broken treaties between the United States and its original people, but also help seat Kimberly Teehee, which would fulfill a promise made many years ago.
