Don’t litter our home
A neighbor and I recently started taking daily walks in the Cherokee Hills neighborhood. In the course of our walking, we noticed an inordinate amount of litter on the sides of the roads.
Some of our walk is on private roads but a section is on the two state roads, Hampton and Keener. These roads are littered with beer cans, bottles, fast-food trash and cigarette butts.
We began carrying a 39-gallon garbage bag and disposable gloves each day, picking up as we walked. Amazingly, we will fill the bag up daily.
Perhaps people take for granted the beautiful landscape they are surrounded by, but there is no excuse for sullying it with trash. If you can throw it out a window, you can throw it in a trash can. If it is a state road, I suggest that the state fatten its coffer by issuing more fines for littering.
Murphy, North Carolina, is a jewel in nature’s crown, but it needs to be cared for by its inhabitants. Please do not litter our home.

Biden making country worse
Every American who loves this country should be outraged at what the Biden administration has done and is continuing to do to destroy this great republic and turn it into a socialist country.
Biden was handed a secure border by President Donald Trump. First day in office, Biden reverses Trump’s policies, opens border, publicly inviting everyone during this pandemic. This is against our Constitution.
Doctors, nurses, police officers, patrol officers, first responders and others considered heroes while working on the front lines are considered by Biden as “unclean” and unemployed if they refuse the vaccine. This is unAmerican.
Then there’s the Afganistan debacle, troops sneaking out in the middle of the night, not even telling our allies. They left our citizens, green card holders, Afgan translators who helped our troops for 20 years. Thirteen of our troops were killed, 20 injured and over 100 Afgans killed by a suicide bomber. Also, Biden left more than $80 billion of U.S. military equipment.
Then there’s the economy. You can’t lock businesses down, mandate masks and vaccines, then pay people to stay at home until small businesses are gone and expect the economy to florish.
When the transportation secretary goes on paternity leave for two months during a pandemic, leaving no one in charge, empty shelves are the result. Supply chains are a mess with 100 cargo container ships off Long Beach and also off the East Coast.
Gas is up 43 percent from this time last year. Groceries, clothes, toys, appliances, paper products, heating, housing, vehicles, used vehicles – in other words, everything is up, inflation on everything we all have to have.
The “Build Back Better” program to spend $5 trillion will destroy our country. It should be “Build Back Broke.”
