Jesus is the King of kings

I cannot be the only follower of Jesus who is quite amused by the so-called “No Kings” protests.

As of surveys in early 2025, 62% of U.S. adults identify as Christians. Given an adult population of roughly 260 million, that translates to about 161 million Christian adults in the United States today. When including children, the total Christian population in the United States is estimated to be 210-224 million, depending on the source.

A Bible verse that directly refers to Jesus as “King of kings and Lord of lords is found in the Book of Revelation: “On His robe and on his thigh, He has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:16).

This passage describes the triumphant return of Christ as a victorious warrior and ruler over all earthly and spiritual powers. It’s a powerful declaration of His supreme authority.

Another Bible verse with a similar phrase is found in the first letter of Paul to Timothy: “He (Jesus) is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords” (1 Timothy 6:15).

Indeed, there is a king in the United States – all hail King Jesus.

Bill increases national debt

The first thing I would like you to do is to get paper, pencil or pen, and write the number 2.5 trillion numerically. What do you feel and think after writing this down?

This number is only a fraction of the increase in the national debt if the budget plan before the U.S. Senate is passed. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this figure
could be at lease three times higher.

Most of us are used to numbers in the hundreds (three zeros), thousands (six zeros) and a few in the millions (nine zeros), but probably none in the billion (12 zeros).

But then think of the figure in the trillions (15 zeros). This is the kind of number this budget plan will add to the national debt.

What do we get for this kind of debt?

According to the CBO, 80% of the American people will pay higher taxes, while the richest 10% will enjoy lower tax rates and reap 60% of the benefits.  The other 10% will be tax neutral. So most of the debt goes to those that are the least to need it. The billionaires with 12 zeros behind their name are the ones who benefit.

It is estimated that 10 million (nine zeros) will lose health-care benefits because of lack of funding and change in requirements.  The ones who need it the most will be the ones most affected. This includes Medicare as well as Medicaid.

If you are as concerned as I am about what is about to happen with this budget, contact your senator. Republicans want to ramrod this budget through by July 4.  Let U.S. Sens. Budd and Tillis know your concerns.

  • Thom Tillis – 202-224-6342.
  • Ted Budd – 202-224-3154.

If you have not written out that figure, do it now.

Mountain lions here

I live on Upper Peachtree Road. Back in January about 6 in the morning, after hearing a noise on my porch, I opened my front door and came face to face with a mountain lion.

I can verify the rumors of mountain lions around here are very true. I am more careful about going out at night without protection.

Tools bring back to life

“Harry, wake up; stay with us; you’ve got to uncover the marble outcropping.”

With these words, daughter Darcy brought me back into consciousness. How many guys get resuscitated by the promise of dirt and digging tools?

It was shift changing time in the CCU of Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn. Daughter Darcy, nurse Melissa and Elijah were the only people left in the room. Parts of my heart had stopped communicating; my mind was taking a little break. I never realized that the heart’s electrics are so important!

Darcy wasn’t gonna let me leave. She hollered, “My dad needs help; do something!” So Melissa – a perfect, 24-year-old Tallahassee, Fla., blonde, excellent talker/thinker who’d found herself a good Christ through nine summers at the Hayesville Truett Baptist Summer Camp – did me CPR.

Darcy says when I heard her talking about digging up the marble outcropping on her seven acres, I opened my eyes and smiled. Diggers of the world, unite.

Loads of thanks to the Blairsville, Ga., emergency room for my first paddling: it was less like a horse’s kick than a bolt of lightning.

Women give all of us life

What is a woman or female human being with a heart and love for their children and other? Jesus called attention away from earthly relationships to more important spiritual relationships. Jesus prepared the people to receive the precious truth.

“For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother” (Matthew 12:50 KJV).

The basis of the Christian ethic is speak evil of no one.

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice, and envy, hateful, and hating one another” (Titus 3:3 KJV).

Therefore, heretics and schismatics are to be rejected (see Titus 3:10, 11 KJV).

Preaching is the God-ordained means to prevent defection from the truth. Preachers and teachers who appeal to itching ears tell people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear, “and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables (myths or legends)” (2 Timothy 4:4 KJV).

So live your life so the preacher won’t have to lie at  your funeral. The key is at
own departure can we say:
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7 KJV).

Faith is belief in God’s word.

Supervision at area pool

I understand a business having to make a profit, especially with rising operating expenses – at least a product or service is provided. What I can’t get my head around is charging someone to watch their child in the pool.

My not-yet-a-teenage granddaughter had a birthday party at Konehete Veterans Park in Murphy. As an added bonus,
her mother paid for the guests (ages 6-plus) to swim.

Adults had to pay $15 to enter the pool area. Some did, some didn’t – even if they weren’t going to swim and weren’t wearing pool attire.

You may trust the lifeguards, but on this day I witnessed the two on duty having a conversation at one end, not in their stands and with their backs to everyone in the pool.

Figure at least 10 adults at $15 each is $150 for what; taking up space? Surely, this “wrong” can be righted.

Yes, there is another place in the area for water fun, but with good reason some people can’t be in the hot sun for extended periods.

I propose that any child under 13 be allowed the supervision of one adult, parent or sitter at no cost.

The facility will surely notice more revenue comes from frequent locals usage than occasional out-of-town guests. Who’s with me?

Drawing your own opinions

I’m writing due to my disappointment in the Cherokee Scout.

The article in regarding the “No Kings” protest, written by Randy Foster and Anngee Quinones-Belian, was anything but unbiased. Even though it may not seem like it, my opinion is not based on my political or personal views.

Basically, the article painted a picture of the unruly, uneducated, rude and uncivilized people of Murphy who gather around Dumpsters, versus the refined, polished and literate people of Hayesville, who only wish goodwill for everyone.

I know this is not what the author intended, but this is what I gleaned from the article.

I can only hope that the editor of the Cherokee Scout, in the future, can be brave enough to allow readers to draw their own conclusions.

Facts about beautiful bill

The published letter “Let’s go back to kindness” should read, “Let’s get back to being honest.”

The “Big Beautiful Bill” does not have any cuts – it is an extension of the tax cuts already in place and continues current spending levels.

Medicaid is not being cut. The potential bill is asking for work requirements be placed on able-bodied people without dependent children. It would tighten the requirements, but probably not affect your family.

The bill has a provision to remove illegal immigrants from the Medicare roll and use artificial intelligence to root out overpayments and fraud. In addition, the bill also would allow broader access to Heath Savings Accounts for Medicare-eligible seniors and an expanded definition of a rural emergency hospital.

DOGE and its members have never been granted detail access to the information the letter claims. All of our information is at greater risk from data breaches that happen at large companies.

Please do not affront me with the religious nonsense of the left. A group that has no belief in God. If they did, they could not support the murder of 60 million babies. How do you know that anyone is being tortured anywhere?

Many victims of these people deported, who arrived illegally, tortured them. The use of the National Guard has been sanctioned by the U.S. Supreme Court as legal. They were there to protect federal property and assist the Los Angeles Police Department.

There must be walls to secure the sovereignty of any country. The walls are designed to protect citizens of that country from invaders, which is what has happened over the past four years. Borders must be secure.

I am not sure where you are getting your information from, but they are spreading lies. You are entitled to your opinion, but try to make sure you know the correct and factual information.

And I will pray for your grandson.
