Cabinet is shameful
Here is the gist of letters written to U.S. Sens. Tom Tillis and Ted Budd (R-N.C.).
Our family wants and needs your strength to assert the Senate’s power as a co-equal branch of government. We pray, along with so many Americans, that you confirm Cabinet leaders who uphold the Constitution, who recognize the legitimacy of President Joe Biden’s election and who are of strong moral character, with the experience and skill to assert sterling leadership.
This is a “no” vote for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for director of health and human services because of his conspiracy theories, shocking ignorance of medical science, the brain worm, years of heroin addiction and the staged bear accident in Central Park.
It means a “no” vote for Pete Hespeth for secretary of defense, not only because of the sexual assault, but because in his book American Crusade he advocates “some form of civil war” against me, my family and many Americans who love our democracy.
It means a “no” vote for Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence. Listen to Republican Sen. Mitt Romney: “She is parroting false Russian propaganda. Her treasonous lies may well lost lives.”
It means a “no” vote for Pam Bondi for attorney general, a woman who did not believe Biden was legally president.
The attorney general should be able to face facts and assert justice.
President-elect Donald Trump has promised to be a “dictator on day one.” He wants you to surrender your power to him. But your power as senators comes from the people of North Carolina.
You are in office to serve us, not the president on a fast track to dictatorship. Honor us, and we will honor you with our support and our respect. Bring us leaders worthy of our good land and bring Americans together.

A perfect gift for Christmas
As we approach Christmas Day, many folks celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who came down from His glorious throne of grace to be borne of a virgin girl named Mary and laid in a manger in a stable.
I got to pondering that God could have come down as a full-grown man of 30 years old and arrive in style, riding in a chariot with an army of angels at His beck and call if there was any trouble a brewing in Bethlehem. Jesus could have danced his way to Rome to tell Herod that he was no longer in charge of anything, that God required his soul that very night. Jesus could have set Himself up as King overall and peace on Earth would reign forever. A happy ending, like a Cinderella story.
God had a perfect plan in place when He humbled Himself lowly to be born and laid in a manger surrounded by various animals, shepherds, angels and later wise men came seeking the baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes helpless as a babe, but still God full of love and grace.
Jesus came into this world born among the poor, not the rich and famous, not of any notability, but a humble servant who one day would save the world from its sin.
Yes, the birth of baby Jesus has stood the test of time, and down through the ages millions of people continue to receive Him as their personal Savior, who will one day come back from heaven and make everything right.
If you don’t know Jesus as your Savior, what a wonderful Christmas gift it would be if you would receive Him into your heart. He’s waiting for you to believe His Name and become a child of God.
