I just want to applaud you on your point of view concerning everything from preserving nature to unbiased existence.

If everyone thought like you – and me – we would have a peaceful, loving coexistence on our planet.

Thank you for your thoughtful heartfelt columns. I enjoy reading what you write.

An outstanding doctor, person

Dr. Brian Mitchell was honored last week at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital with a retirement party. Gathered together were the professional medical and nursing staff along with many of the general hospital staff.

I attended, as not only a patient of many years, but also as a retired physician and former medical school professor. I write to share my admiration for both the physician and the man that is Dr. Mitchell.

As a physician, I recognized in my early contact with him that we were blessed here in rural western North Carolina with a highly competent and skilled practitioner of the medical arts and science. That has been proven over my 18 years here. He has had a profound influence on the entire medical community, and the services and standards of our local hospital, apparent to me as an outsider who is also knowledgeable of that which I speak.

As a man, Dr. Mitchell has made numerous contributions to the community outside of his medical realm. If you have paid attention, you have seen his public statements in this publication on important issues. And, perhaps you have taken advantage of the outstanding Murphy Health & Fitness facility, which exists due to his leadership. He has epitomized the ideal physician, who  the profession has taught to not only serve the individual patient, but also to enhance the community in which we serve.

Join me in wishing him a fulfilling and blessed retirement, which is so well deserved.
