County needs zoning laws

I am writing to express my deep concern about the absence of zoning laws in Cherokee County, N.C.

The lack of zoning regulations and criteria has left homeowners vulnerable to the encroachment of commercial properties, resulting in detrimental consequences for residential streets and the overall well-being of the community.

Without proper zoning measures in place, homeowners are left defenseless against the encroachment of commercial properties that can significantly impact the value of their properties. The unchecked establishment of commercial ventures in close proximity to residential areas not only diminishes the aesthetics of the neighborhood but also poses potential health hazards.

One of the most pressing issues associated with the absence of zoning laws is the detrimental impact on the environment. Large construction vehicles, such as those used for crushing concrete, emit toxic fumes, leak oil, and release other harmful toxins into the watershed. This not only compromises the quality of the water but also poses a serious threat to the health and well-being of the residents, particularly the elderly.

In light of these concerns, it is imperative that our elected officials, who are currently up for reelection, address this pressing issue and take decisive action to protect the interests of the taxpayers in Cherokee County. It is essential that they formulate and implement comprehensive zoning laws and regulations that safeguard residential areas from the encroachment of commercial activities.

By establishing zoning laws, we can ensure that the growth and development of our county are guided by well-defined criteria that prioritize the well-being of its residents. Zoning laws will not only protect homeowners from the adverse effects of commercial activities but also contribute to the overall enhancement of the community’s quality of life.

I urge our elected officials to prioritize this issue and take immediate action to implement zoning regulations that safeguard the interests of the taxpayers. It is crucial that we work together to protect the residential integrity, environmental health and future prosperity of our community.

We have lost our way, soul

Half of Pete and Helen Holdorf’s boys are dead and gone. It’s to be expected, sure, because death awaits us all. It shouldn’t come as such a surprise, but it’s still always shocking.

If the country wasn’t changing so much, along with the passing of each of our souls, it might be easier to take. Back in the 1960s, when LBJ pushed through the Civil Rights Act, he knew the Democrats would lose the South for decades … it’s been over 50 years. Without the Southern Democrats, the Senate would forever lose a Democratic majority; and along with it, apparently, a Republican dictator was bound to appear, to destroy our democratically elected government (no pun intended).

With the Senate, the courts and the presidency gone, we’re about to be needing a new Constitution. States Rights have finally, decisively, become the People’s Wrongs. Hey, things change.

In order to have half the people in favor of re-electing a tyrant, this half, over generations, had to lose algebra, the World’s Greatest Logical System; and it’s too long gone to bring back now.

Our free society’s dumbed down to the point of extinction, when the brilliant notion of reducing the use of fossil fuels appeared, and three quarters of our citizens couldn’t imagine driving to the store without sipping Big Oil.

We’ve collectively lost our way, our minds and our souls.

Who has immunity?

Ex-President Donald Trump has claimed “presidential immunity” for some of the charges brought against him. The prosecutors, and most Democrats, disagree.

So, if there is no immunity for Trump, how does ex-President Barack Obama get away with ordering a hit on Osama bin Laden?

Letter was inaccurate

Just read the letter from Perry Reese (in the March 20 edition of the Cherokee Scout). Not sure what he’s thinking calling President Joe Biden a liar when former President Donald Trump was found to have lied 30,000 times in the four years he was in office.

As far as COVID-19, Trump let more than 1 million people die because he didn’t take it seriously. And I am not sure what he’s talking about them wanting to get rid of cattle and fake meat and nuclear power and forcing people to drive electric cars. Biden has a 1967 Corvette.

Perry must be watching Fox News.

Trump is like a cancer on our society. I’m in my 70s, and I’ve never seen our country so tore up as it has been since Trump took office in 2016.

I am so scared of what’s going to happen if he gets back in the office again, as he admires Russian President Vladimir Putin and just about any other dictator out there. Because that’s exactly what he would like to be as long as he doesn’t have to fight for it – but he avoided fighting in Vietnam because of his bunions.

And, by the way, I vote for whoever I think will do the best job, Republican or Democrat. That definitely will not be Trump.
