Democratic voters needed

It has come to my attention that some Democratic voters in Cherokee County feel there is no reason to go to the polls to vote in the primary, while other Democrats changed their party to unaffiliated in order to vote Tuesday, March 5.

Attention Democrats! We may not have any local representation in this election, but we have a whole ballot of races to vote for. This primary is going to decide which of our candidates will be facing the GOP candidates in the fall election.

First, there is presidential preference, where you vote for President Joe Biden or no preference. The governor’s race has five candidates to choose from, the other races that need to be decided, including lieutenant governor, attorney general, commissioner of insurance, superintendent of public instruction, state treasurer and Supreme Court associate justice Seat 6.

If still unaffiliated, ask for a Democratic ballot and vote accordingly. If you’re a Democrat, please don’t sit this one out!

The Cherokee County Democratic Party hopes to hold a candidate video event, where each candidate on the upcoming ballot will have a few minutes to convince you to vote for them. Watch our Facebook page for day and time. Location will be the local party headquarters in the West End Plaza at 142 Main St. in Andrews.

Calling it what it is

As I write this letter, there are 263 days left until the 2024 presidential election. A lot of things, mostly harmful, can and will happen in the next 263 days. One thing for certain is that Joe Biden will pardon Hunter Biden for all of his criminal doings.

Now no matter who you are, what you write or what you do it will offend somebody. Sorry, David Bellino, for tremendously offending you, it’s just I have this habit of calling a spade a spade.

I’m not pointing a finger at Biden himself, I am pointing a finger at the swamp, the deep state, the entire Biden administration. Washington is unfortunately covered with cow paddies. Somebody needs to clean this stinking mess up.

If elected I know who can and will, Donald J. Trump. I do not hate nor wish harm to anyone, what I do hate is what this administration wishes to transform the United States of America into.

I have never lived in or been to a communist country, but I do know enough history to know it is not where I want to be. I also know that is the direction the Democratic Party is pushing us. Control and power is the main concern of the party, period.

Do I feel any remorse for calling this administration cow paddies? Absolutely not, what they deserve to be called is not printable. If my opinion offends you, you can always look at the bottom right hand corner of a letter. If you see my name, don’t read it.

Would I say this to Biden’s face? I would love to.

Living with  rare disease

This letter was addressed to Cherokee Scout Staff Correspondent Sarah Foster.

Your rare disease article is timely this month.

My husband, Robert, was diagnosed in May 2021 with a rare disease, cortical basal degeneration. He passed on Nov. 8, 2021.

Of course, I have no idea of what you are going though. However, as Robert’s caregiver, I can relate somewhat.

I will remember those who suffer from rare diseases on Feb. 29 and will wear zebra stripes on that day to recognize rare diseases.

God bless you each day as you live with your rare disease.

Clergy speak out vs. HCA

We take seriously the allegations set forth in the Asheville Watchdog article of  Jan. 12 regarding conditions at Mission Health. These allegations put HCA in immediate jeopardy in multiple instances. It also places our health-care system at risk of losing Medicare and Medicaid funding if corrective actions are not undertaken, which could be a disaster for our region.

As faith leaders, we see our local hospitals as sacred spaces. Within the walls of this critical place in our community, we regularly accompany congregational members, friends and family with spiritual care and love. We are present at the beginning and end of life, as well as in crucial moments in between. We understand the vital role of our health-care system.

We express our ongoing support for employees of Mission Health. The medical and support staff are the heart and soul of Mission. They hold together the seams of this broken system on behalf of all of us.

Unfortunately, physicians and nurses will likely become scapegoats. Yet, HCA must bear responsibility for creating the conditions that have led to dangerous situations.

We cannot be silent while dedicated medical staff are expected to bear the burden of the failures of HCA executives. We have lost hundreds of medical personnel since HCA took over at Mission Health, some from our own congregations.

We are deeply concerned that after five years of HCA’s ownership of Mission Health they have not fulfilled significant portions of the agreement.

We ask that the agencies tasked with holding HCA accountable for the initial commitments continue to closely monitor the conditions that have been named by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. We pray that they will, if necessary, enforce the appropriate consequences if conditions of immediate jeopardy are not corrected.

Lights needed for safety of all

This letter was addressed to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.

It’s 8 p.m., and I just completed a visit to the county landfill Dumpster area.

During this visit, I noticed numerous high poles hosting thousands of dollars worth of security cameras and Internet antennas.

Also noticeable was the darkness. Only one streetlight, focused away from the Dumpster area.

The impression is that empty bottles and dirty diapers are valued higher in Cherokee County than the safety of the citizens.

Based on available county records, the solid waste budget is over $3 million. A few hundred dollars to keep the county citizens safe by installing additional lighting shouldn’t break the bank.

Most, I assume, would give ups few illegally deposited bottles to keep someone from being injured by a fall or being assaulted by someone concealed in the darkness.

Thanks for your attention.

Let record say the truth

Many Republicans in Congress tell their constituents they’re conservative, but soon forget their promise and vote with the RINO establishment once in Washington. U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards’ voting record proves this to be true.

When the uni-party (establishment Republicans and Democrats) needs a bill passed, they can count on Edwards to do their bidding. Words are cheap, so what follows is a sampling of his voting record that clearly shows he not only votes with Democrats, but that more Democrats vote in favor of these important bills than Republicans:

  • Voted for the Fiscal Responsibility Act (164 Democrats and 146 Republicans). The United States’ national debt is $34 trillion-plus. This bill gave the uni-party a blank check allowing unlimited spending until Jan. 1, 2025.
  • The CBO projects that the Highway Trust Fund is expected to become insolvent in 2028 and Social Security in 2033. Meanwhile, Edwards and others in Congress continue their out-of-control spending, burying our children and grandchildren in a mountain of debt they can never repay.
  • Voted to begin funding for a new FBI headquarters larger than the Pentagon (203 Democrats and 70 Republicans).
  • Voted for the National Defense Authorization Act and extended the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (163 Democrats and 147 Republicans).
  • Voted against censure of U.S. Rep. Rashida Talib’s Call for Violence Against Israel (199 Democrats and 23 Republicans).

Edwards has a 71 percent voting record from Conservative Heritage Action, while the average House Republican scores 79 percent. Most Republicans are hungry for n America-first/MAGA conservative Republican congressman who will represent their values in Washington and not the establishment.

Christian Reagan is that man. He is a God-fearing devoted family man, who loves America and will put her interest and the citizens of N.C. District 11 above those of the swamp.
