This week’s question:
Now that folks have had time to drive on it, what’s your opinion of the roundabout in downtown Murphy?
- This was a good move that moves traffic better.
- This was a bad move as the light worked better.
“I think it works good with the roundabout. I feel like it flows quicker through downtown. Some people are a little slow at it, but I like it better.”
Evan Murphy, Murphy
“I miss the light. I don’t trust the other person to not violate my right of way or yield for me to go. It’s confusing, and I think the traffic flowed better with the light.”
George Evens, Andrews
“It works better now because it’s safer. People weren’t looking with the light and would go on red, but in the roundabout people are actually looking
now.”
Nicholas Orr. Murphy
“I like the roundabout because I don’t have to sit at the red
light. I think that it’s less safe, though, because you don’t
know if somebody’s gonna stop or not.”
Joan Marble, Ranger
“I love roundabouts. In small places where a stoplight or four-way can back you up, it works better. Roundabouts smooth traffic out. It’s easier to do a U-turn in a roundabout than to find somewhere else to turn around because you’re already in motion.
“Right now, people in Murphy are trying to figure out how to do the roundabout, but in six months all of the frustration we have about it will be lessened. In a year, it’ll be even less and be second nature. It’s smoother and faster than stop signs and stoplights.”
