This week’s question: The North Carolina primary election is set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, about three months after filing takes place Dec. 1-19. Is the primary held too early?
- Yes; there’s not enough time to consider all of the candidates, and there’s too much time between the primary and general elections.
- No; it’s a good thing for North Carolina to go early in the voting process, especially during presidential election years.

“It should be more time because three months is not long enough to get a feel for the person. You want to know what they’re about, the politics and what they stand for. You wanna look into the people.”

“It’s enough time because I do think a lot of people have almost made up their minds before those three months are even
up. Half of the time people
aren’t knowledgeable enough, and they see the Republican
or Democrat side of the candidate and that’s what they vote for.
“I don’t think that three months will even help that much. For the people it does matter to, I think three months is plenty enough time to get an idea of who they are and who they’d like to vote for.”

“Personally, I think it’s fine. I just don’t believe they need much more time than that. I feel like three months is a good enough amount of time for people to vote on something. I don’t think it has to be six months or a year long.”

“No, I think that it’s just
fine. Everybody knows it’s coming, and they should prepare for it.”
