This week’s question: Who do you believe is most at fault for the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history, which ended last week?
- President Donald Trump’s administration.
- Democratic members of Congress.
- Republican members of Congress.
- All of the above.

“Personally, I think there’s a little bit to go around to everybody, but the primary thing is that the Democrats had a (continuing resolution), and it was the same thing that they had before with (President Joe) Biden and signed it. However, this time they decided they didn’t want to do it. They wanted to add stuff to it so it better aligned with their agenda, instead of just signing it to keep the government running until they could sit down and negotiate. Trump wanted it done.
“Republicans wanted to get together later because there are some changes that need to be made to health care. The Democrats held off, using it as leverage. They didn’t care about all the people that were going to lose the benefits they depend on. I went through it in the military, and it hurt.
“The CR didn’t add anything to the bill, it was the same one the Democrats signed before, they just hate Trump so much that they’re willing to hurt others. That’s just what I believe, but it wound up hurting everybody.”

“I would say it would be the Democrats and the politics on that side trying to position for power.”

“The Republican administration. They didn’t even come in to discuss it or communicate it at all. They stayed away from what’s supposed to be the governmental process.”

“It’s all of the above. You’ve got to work together. You gotta look in the mirror; that’s whose fault it is. I was in the U.S. Marine Corps, so I’ve seen firsthand how shady the government is. It doesn’t matter; Democrat or Republican, it’s everybody.
“To me, personally, they took God out of everything, and I think that’s the downfall.”

“Everybody, all of the above. Nobody can agree on anything, they all want their own way and nobody wants to find common ground on anything. It’s all, my way or the highway, and there is no discussion on anything anymore.”
