This week’s question: Should the
N.C. Department of Health & Human Services reimburse Cherokee County for some of the expenses incurred in lawsuits settled years ago against the Department of Social Services?

  • Yes, it’s the state agency with oversight.
  • No, it’s all the county’s responsibility.
  • I have no idea.
.

“Yes, absolutely they should reimburse Cherokee County. The lawsuit that was just done against (the director and staff), where they took the kids from the house. They were responsible for that.”

Julie Perez, Murphy

.

“I really just don’t know who’s responsible, but whoever did something wrong should have to pay for it.”

Kelly Saienni, Peachtree

.

“Yes, they should have to reimburse
because, at the end of the day, it’s their responsibility and fault for the majority
of it. If you make certain things happen, there are repercussions for everyone’s
actions.

“If you didn’t do something properly or correctly, we the people, shouldn’t have to be paying for it. It should be on those working within that business to take responsibilities to fix it.”

                             Brittany Tussey, Ranger

.

“Yes, they should try and reimburse the county. It’s about accountability and responsibility; otherwise, it just continues the pattern.”

Dwayne Taylor, Peachtree

.

“Definitely, I think so. They should reimburse the county because we end up having to pay for it. It’s not fair, and I think the state should have to help pay that back.”
