Reaching Out: You are not alone in thinking about suicide

If you are struggling with thoughts of suicide, please know this: you are not alone, and help is available for you.

Every year, millions of people experience moments when life feels overwhelming. In the United States alone, more than 12 million adults seriously consider suicide annually, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.

While these feelings can be intense, they are also often temporary, especially when the right support is in place.

Suicidal thoughts can be triggered by many things – depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, financial stress or feeling like a burden.

These struggles do not define your worth, and they do not mean you are weak. In fact, reaching out for help is an act of courage.

You may believe that no one would understand what you’re going through, but the truth is that countless others have been where you are – and survived.

Research shows that more than 90% of people who attempt suicide and live do not go on to die by suicide. Many find healing, new purpose, and a chance to rewrite their story once they connect with support.

If you are in pain right now, take a step toward safety. Call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Someone is available 24/7 to listen, without judgment.

Talking to a trusted friend, family member, counselor or doctor can also provide relief. Sometimes sharing your feelings out loud can make the burden feel lighter.

Your life has value. Even if it feels impossible to see right now, your presence matters to people around you – and your future can hold more than the pain you are facing today.

Please hold on, reach out, and remember: there is hope, and there is help.
