Reaching Out: Shining a light on domestic violence

Body
.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on an issue that touches families in every community, including our own.

Domestic violence knows no boundaries; it affects women, men and children of all ages, backgrounds and income levels. Nationally, one in four women and one in seven men will experience severe physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Reach of Cherokee County provides lifesaving services for survivors, including safe shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and support programs that empower victims to rebuild their lives. Domestic violence thrives in silence, but together, we can break that silence. By raising awareness and supporting survivors, we help end the cycle of abuse and build safer communities for all.

Throughout the month, purple ribbons, vigils and community events serve as a reminder that domestic violence is not a private matter, but a public concern.

Everyone can play a part by learning the warning signs, supporting loved ones, volunteering or advocating for stronger protections.

If you or someone you know needs help, Reach of Cherokee & Graham Counties offers a 24-hour crisis line at 828-837-8064.

This October, let us honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and commit to a future free of violence.
