I have always loved dogs. My first job with dogs was assisting a dog groomer in a busy veterinary practice. I took my job seriously, and after a short time, the clinic owner asked me to become his veterinary assistant. I was quickly accepted into a well-respected veterinary technology program and worked as a certified veterinary technician for more than 15 years.
During this exciting journey, I dove into volunteering with animals at rescues and shelters, discovering my passion for helping them thrive. After relocating to North Georgia, I eagerly became involved with multiple rescues. I soon recognized the need for positive change, especially regarding the use of prong and shock collars. I knew there had to be a kinder, more compassionate approach to help these wonderful dogs adapt to our world. I’m thrilled to be part of that change.
I never envisioned myself as a professional dog trainer, but when friends started seeking my help for their dogs, a passion ignited within me. Eager to learn more, I delved into books and attended numerous classes to expand my knowledge. Although I had some experience, I realized that a comprehensive education would equip me to better understand canine behavior. That’s when I enrolled in the Victoria Stilwell Academy for Training and Behavior, where I graduated with pride.
I connected with insightful and compassionate mentors who guided me in helping our dogs flourish in our world. I’ve found that dogs truly love to learn when approached with kindness and understanding. By positively reinforcing their good behaviors, we can teach them what we value together. I was thrilled to channel my passion into making a meaningful difference in the lives of dogs and their humans, which inspired me to launch my dog training business, Inspire Your Dog, LLC.
Let’s cherish the incredible bond we’ve formed with our beloved dogs. Each pup comes with a rich history shaped by their life experiences and genetics, and it’s vital for their happiness that they can express their natural behaviors. I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to learn about dog body language and embrace the distinctive traits of various breeds. Together, we can create a happier, more fulfilling life for our dogs.
If you are thinking about hiring a dog trainer, it’s important to do your research. The field is unregulated, which means anyone can claim to be a dog trainer. Make sure to ask plenty of questions and ensure that both you and your dog are treated with kindness and compassion. Only choose trainers who use force-free methods.
Remember, it’s all about fostering a positive bond while ensuring that learning is fun and pain-free.
