Get your pirate life one, as you can find buried treasure downtown. Register at the Murphy Art Center to sign up to decorate a special space on the floor of the new Special Events Gallery before the final flooring is laid. Your art will then be “buried” as a new floor is installed, not to be seen again until the flooring has been replaced, for future generations to discover as a time capsule.

Murphy – A “Buried Treasure” fundraiser is in progress at the Murphy Art Center downtown. Be part of the legacy.

Register at the MAC to sign up to decorate a special space on the floor of the new Special Events Gallery before the final flooring is laid. Your art will then be “buried” as the new floor is installed, not to be seen again until the flooring has been replaced, for future generations to discover.

You can paint or draw directly on your assigned space, or add a photo, painting, corporate poster or flier, or drawing that you have created on paper and tape this into your space. That is, as long as your art is flat: no frames, mats or embellishments that would be thicker than paper or canvas are allowed.

You can sign up for more than one space. Get friends and family involved. Dedicate a space to someone you love, preserve your own legacy or sign up your company for a corporate sponsorship through your art. Large and small spaces are available to the first 35 who register. It’s first come, first served.

Decorating for Buried Treasure will take place through Thursday. The MAC is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day; 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sundays; and open until 8 p.m. Fridays. Stop in anytime during those hours to decorate or add art to your space.

There will be a big “Buried Treasure Artist Showcase Event” during the First Friday Art Walk this week for the public to view all of the artworks created for “Buried Treasure.” Invite everyone you know to stop by The MAC. The event is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

“Buried Treasure” is a fundraiser for the Valley River Arts Guild. All funds raised will be placed in our Legacy program for mortgage support. Show your love for everything the guild’s volunteers do for your community by taking part in our “Buried Treasure” fundraiser.

Our nonprofit all-volunteer organization offers the community so much, which includes: producing the First Friday Art Walk; installing the gorgeous Murphy Art Xplosion artworks throughout downtown; offering arts programs for kids, teenagers and adults; promoting all local arts events; supporting local and regional artists; and offering the community a wonderful art center gallery filled with local arts and crafts.

“Buried Treasure” 2’x2’ individual spaces (four square feet) are $25 each. “Buried Treasure” 4’x4’ large corporate spaces (16 square feet) are $100 each.

Sign up now to reserve your space at: Murphy Art Center,                                                                                   12 Peachtree St., Murphy, NC 28906; or call 828-360-3038 with a credit card.
