Open house a success for businesses, visitors

Andrews – Plenty of people came out Saturday for an open house hosted by the Andrews Chamber of Commerce in the office at 955 Main St. downtown.

The office has even more space since it no longer shares the building with a bookstore. Everyone was treated to sandwiches from Cups & Cones Cafe, along with danishes by Homespun Hobbies. There were plenty of other snacks and beverages for everyone to enjoy as well, along with a drawing for gifts from local contributors.

The chamber of commerce plays a large role with local businesses by offering support and assistant in a variety of ways. Business owners can turn to the chamber for help with issues they may have regarding their businesses as well as needed equipment.

The chamber can also assist with grants and promotions as well as helping local business owners understand marketing – in essence, helping local businesses grow and thrive. Opportunities are also available at the chamber for networking.

Visitors can utilize the chamber to learn about the area as well as gain in sight on activities and things to do with a calendar of events, maps and brochures. A number of special speakers stopped by throughout the day to answer questions and share information.

One of the goals of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce for the upcoming year is to provide a space for meetings, classes and for folks to stop by and learn about what the organization has to offer. An informative meeting place with a "living room" feel as a couch and chair for reading or relaxing now adorn the newly acquired space.

"We would also like to help the town recover from the hard times brought on by COVID,” said Nola Cooper, the chamber's new executive director. They also plan to hold classes on social media marketing to assist business owners in expanding their presence online.
