Brasstown – This spring, the Brasstown Ringers and friends are taking audiences on a musical journey – and raising money for great causes along the way.
The Ringers’ first benefit concert will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 66 Harrison Ave. in Franklin. An ensemble from the Mountain Voices Community Chorus will join the Brasstown Ringers for an evening of bells and voices. All donations go directly to the “Little Free Food Pantries” spread across Macon County. The First United Methodist Church Missions Committee will distribute funds/food to each of these “small places” that serve as big resources in the community.
The Ringers’ next benefit concert will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at New Life Church, 34 Sunrise Place in Hayesville. Choirs from New Life Church, Sharp United Methodist Church and Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, along with local musicians, team up with Brasstown Ringers for a night of sacred and secular music. Proceeds benefit Truett Children’s Home and St. Vincent De Paul.
The Brasstown Ringers bring six octaves of Schulmerich bells and seven octaves of Malmark chimes to spotlight various ringing techniques and showcase the beauty and depth of handbell music. Performances by a quartet and bell tree solo help demonstrate how smaller groups can also be an effective alternative to a larger bell choir.
Founded in 1992, the Ringers draw members from Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina, rehearsing weekly under the direction of Linda Sterrett at Oak Forest UMC in Hayesville.
Brasstown Ringers perform a spring and winter concert series at various locations and upon request, small group ensembles are available to participate in worship services, club meetings, etc.
Admission is free, but donations are welcome to support this year’s benefit recipients.
