Murphy – Rain didn’t keep trick or treaters away from Shepherd of the Mountains Church on the afternoon of Oct. 27.
In a joint effort with MountainView Church, both congregations created a Trunk or Treat large enough to need a parking detail with several attendants. The Trunk or Treat was Bible themed and offered lots of candy and treats.
Several vehicles had decorated trunks to portray Bible stories, such as Jonah and the whale, Daniel and the lion’s den, and Moses and the Ten Commandments.
Lines were long but moved quickly from story to story. A row of tables under the church building’s eves replaced some vehicle trunks to keep folks out of the rain. There was also an area set up inside the church with decorated tables, stories and treats for anyone preferring to be indoors. Lynda Coleman appeared to enjoy offering treats to the kids passing by her table.
Pastor Chris West was on hand to help make sure everything went smoothly. There was a prayer team available for anyone who wanted to ask questions or pray.
The churches also offered hot chocolate and coffee for anyone wanting to warm up. Other gifts for trick or treaters included bracelets, stuffed animals and pencils.
Costumes were fun and included a cow, penguin and a dinosaur. There was also a tiny ladybug and a witch running around gathering treats, as well as a big and little skeleton played by Merbin Garcia and grandson Billy Lee.
