The winning candidates put in some work.

After 12 hours of hugs and handshakes outside voting precincts, incumbent James Reid won a second term as mayor of Andrews.

Meanwhile, newcomer Brandi Smith will serve on the Andrews Board of Aldermen alongside incumbent Steve Jordan.

“This is going to be my last term,” Jordan told the Cherokee Scout, elated that he won a fifth term.

In Murphy, a last minute write-in candidate garnered more votes than all other people running for a seat on town council. Charlene Smith, who did not appear on the ballot, will serve on Murphy Town Council alongside Barry McClure, Frank Dickey, Keisha Dockery, Gail Stansell and Barbara Hughes.

Tim Radford will serve as Murphy’s next mayor.
