Phillip "Peewee" Davis
Murphy – After more than 30 years on the job, Phillip “Peewee” Davis is retiring from the Cherokee County Parks & Recreation Department. His last day will be Saturday, Jan. 31.
Davis began his employment in May 1992 as a groundskeeper, maintenance worker and was promoted to director in 2011. Of active employees, he has been with Cherokee County the longest.
“Peewee,” as everyone knows him, has been instrumental in the improvement and safety of the more than 450-acre property that includes tennis and pickleball courts, soccer, baseball and softball fields, and playgrounds.
He was born and raised in Cherokee County and has officiated athletic events since his teens. He will continue to referee and umpire as needed.
He really enjoys and understands the importance of youth sports.
Plans are being made to put some of his free time into home repairs as well as his favorite hobbies such as hunting and fishing. His two grandchildren often want him to take them camping. His wife, Amy, would like for them to do some traveling, maybe take a cruise.
A social media profile on Facebook is being set up. To reach him, an instant message can be sent to obtain his new email address and phone number.
Let’s wish him the best.
