Eric McDaniel is a single father and the main provider for his two boys, and a traumatic brain injury from a work accident a few weeks ago has left his future in doubt.
After falling from a ladder and suffering a frontal lobe injury, McDaniel cannot work and may never be able to work again, according to family friend Ashley Tillett.
“There is a lot of unknowns right now. He is in therapy weekly to try to get his speech and cognitive abilities fully back,” she said. “He cannot speak as well as he used to. His short-term memory is hit and miss. He has balance and mobility issues.”
McDaniel needs help daily, which also is making it difficult on his sons, ages 7 and 10. He has been receiving treatment at the Shepherd Center, one of the nation’ leading rehabilitation hospitals.
“You can imagine how difficult all of this uncertainty has been. He is struggling with basic needs – food, gas and rides to get to Atlanta weekly for therapy, waiting for disability approval and waiting for food stamps to be approved,” Tillett said. “He is carrying a lot on his shoulders, and is terrified of losing his home and not being able to provide for his children.”
