Andrews man arrested in wife’s slaying

Andrews – An Andrews man has been charged in the Jan. 31 gunshot slaying of his wife.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Randy Freeman on Feb. 19 and booked him on charges of second degree murder and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call on Jan. 31 about a person suffering from a gunshot wound at 90 Dan Holland Road.

Deputies and paramedics found Amy Freeman, a resident there, dead upon their arrival.

Following an investigation, arrested 43-year-old Randy Dean Freeman, Amy Freeman’s husband.

Authorities ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 828-837-2589.

Sheriff Dustin D. Smith thanks all the first responders, 911 dispatch, detectives, members of the community and the District Attorney’s Office for their “due diligence and assistance in the pursuit of justice in this case.”

Randy Freeman is being held without bail at the Cherokee County Corrections Facility in Murphy.

Freeman has a criminal record that includes carrying a concealed weapon, DWI, larceny after breaking and entering and other breaking and entering charges dating back to 1998, with the most recent charges, DWI and carrying a concealed weapon, occurring in November 2006.
