Andrews – It was a one-game week for the Wildcats, while they faced a Nantahala squad fresh off a loss to Hiwassee Dam a day prior.
The Andrews and Nantahala varsity basketball teams met for the first time this season in Andrews on Dec. 9.
Boys
The Wildcats spread the ball around against the Hawks as Andrews had five players scoring in double-digit points. Like the girls game, the boys game was close in the first quarter before the Cats pulled away to win.
Andrews took a three-point lead into the second quarter. After the Wildcats added 28 points in the second quarter and held the Hawks to only five points, they led 48-22 at halftime.
The Cats started the second half with 21 more points in the third quarter and held the Hawks to seven points.
In the fourth quarter, the Hawks had double digit points after two low scoring quarters. With 18 more points in the final frame, the Wildcats won 87-40.
Andrews was led by Logan Shuler with 18 points. Braylen Maennle had 17 points. Levi Clark also had 15 points. Also in double digits for the Wildcats were Brady McLelland with 14 points and Gabe Clark with 10.
Nantahala was led by Cole McCoy with 16 points. Landon Neal was also in double digits with 13 points.
Girls
The game between the Lady Wildcats and the Hawks started close, but the Wildcats pulled away en route to a 56-19 win.
Despite scoring 15 points in the first quarter, the Hawks were just a step behind after scoring nine points. After a 17-point second quarter, the Lady Wildcats took a 32-13 lead to halftime.
In the third quarter, the Cats added 21 more points to lead 53-17 heading into the final frame. Both teams combined for five points in the fourth quarter as Andrews defeated Nantahala 56-19.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Drea Cutshaw with 14 points. Also in double digits were Knox Davis with 12 and Juliet Holloway with 11. Marley Blackwell had nine points on three 3-pointers.
The Lady Hawks were led by Zoey Passmore with 11 points. Delaney McLean had eight points.
Up next
The Wildcats will play one more game before heading out for winter break.
They will make the long trip to Rosman on Friday for their first meeting with the Tigers this season. The girls are set to begin at 6 p.m., while the boys will play directly after.
