Wildcats, Jaguars fall to tough teams in playoffs

The 2025 boys soccer season has come to an end for Andrews and Tri-County Early College after both faced tough opponents in the state 1A playoffs.

For the first time in the team’s history, Tri-County made the playoffs. The Jaguars hit the road and faced North Stokes in the first round.

Andrews earned a first-round bye and faced the N.C. School of Science & Mathematics in the second round.

But both teams saw their seasons come to an end in their first playoff matches.

The Wildcats’ season came to an end in the second round with a 7-1 loss to a tough team.

Andrews was seeded No. 11 and received a first-round bye. No. 6 seeded NCSSM: Morganton also got a bye. This setup their match in Morganton on Thursday.

Ethan Barton scored on a penalty kick for the Wildcats’ lone goal in the match.

The Dragon took an early lead with five goals in the first half. Barton’s goal came in the first half as the Cats trailed 5-1 at halftime.

The Dragons added two more goals in the second half to win 7-1.

Andrews ended the season with a 5-9-1 overall record in their first season as just a boys team and not co-ed. Their season included two wins over Swain County, as well as wins over Tri-County, Highlands and Summit Charter. They also tied with Tri-County in their second matchup.

Tri-County

The Jaguars played their first-round matchup on Nov. 4, traveling to Danbury to face North Stokes High School. The match was their first playoff match in the history of the boys soccer team.

North Stokes was the No. 15 seed, while Tri-County was the No. 18 seed, as the Jaguars hit the road for their first-round match.

Their season came to an end after North Stokes won 6-0. Tri-County finished the season with an 0-15-1 overall record.

North Stokes advanced to face Clover Garden School during the second round Thursday.
