Wildcats fall to Swain

Andrews baseball, softball swept by Maroon Devils

It was a tough week for the Andrews baseball and softball teams, as both were swept by Swain County.

Baseball

In the first game of the week for the Wildcats on April 1, they fell to Swain 7-3.

After a scoreless opening inning, both teams drove home one run in the second inning to tie at 1. Swain then began pulling away with three runs in the third inning. Following one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, the Maroon Devils led 7-1.

The Cats scored two runs in the sixth inning, but couldn’t add more runs to rally late and they fell 7-3.

In their second game of the week, they fell 6-2 to the Devils.

Andrews took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. The Wildcats led 2-0 until Swain tied it up in the third inning.

Swain then pulled away with four runs in the fourth inning, which was where the score stood as the game ended.

Softball

The Lady Cats took on Swain on April 1 in a doubleheader where they fell in both games.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Swain won 13-0.

In the four-inning game, Swain took an early lead and didn’t look back. The Lady Devils scored two runs in the first inning, then followed it up with 11 more runs in the second to get the shutout.

Swain also won the second game of the doubleheader with a big margin. In the three-inning game, Swain won 19-1.

Andrews took an early lead with one run in the first inning, but Swain got their bats going with 12 runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second to win big.

Up next

On Tuesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 17, the Wildcats’ baseball and softball teams will take on in-county rivals Murphy.

April 15 will be in Andrews, while April 17 will be in Murphy. The Wildcats’ games against Murphy will start at 4:30 p.m.
