It was an up-and-down week for the Andrews varsity basketball teams, but they ended the week on a high.
They started their week with losses to Smoky Mountain, then wrapped up the week by sweeping Summit Charter.
Boys
The Wildcats started their week of with a trip to Sylva for their second meeting with Smoky Mountain. On Dec. 1, the Wildcats suffered their second loss of the season to the Mustangs.
The Mustangs got off to a quick start, scoring 13 points in the first quarter and holding Andrews to five points. In the second quarter, Smoky Mountain added 19 points to lead 32-17 at halftime.
It was a high-scoring third quarter as Andrews dropped 16 points, but Smoky Mountain scored 22 to answer.
Andrews outscored Smoky Mountain 16-11 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Mustangs won 65-49.
Braylen Maennle led the Cats with 14 points. Levi Clark had nine points, six coming from the free-throw line.
To close out their week, the Wildcats wrapped up back-to-back road games by heading to Cashiers to take on Summit Charter, winning 61-37.
Andrews got off to a hot start with 20 first-quarter points, while holding the Bears to only eight points. After scoring 18 more points in the second quarter, Andrews led 38-21 at halftime.
The Cats came out of halftime and dropped 16 more points to head into the fourth quarter leading 54-31. Andrews outscored Summit Charter again in the fin al frame to win 61-37.
The Wildcats were led by Levi Clark with 16 points. Also in double digits were Brady McLelland with 13 points and Brady Queen with 12.
Girls
Andrews also hit the road Dec. 1 to take on Smoky Mountain. After the Lady Wildcats won the first matchup on Nov. 21, they fell on the road 50-39 for their second straight loss.
Andrews got out to an early lead with 10 points in the first quarter, but the Lady Mustangs dropped 21 points in the second quarter to lead 30-16 at halftime. The Lady Wildcats brought it close in the third quarter with 14 points of their own and held Smoky Mountain to only five points.
Smoky Mountain led 35-30 heading into the fourth quarter, then dropped 15 points and held the Lady Cats to nine points to win 50-39.
The only Lady Wildcats in double digits was Knox Davis with 20 points, with 12 of those coming on 3-pointers.
The Lady Wildcats were back on the road Friday as they took on Summit Charter, winning 60-35 win to bounce back.
Andrews had 31 points in the first half to lead 31-20 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Cats controlled the court, scoring 10 points in the third quarter before having a huge 21-point fourth to win the game.
The Lady Cats were led by Drea Cutshaw, who had 23 points Friday night. Davis had 16 points as the other Lady Cat in double digits. Marley Blackwell scored nine points on three 3-pointers.
Up next: Andrews will be back in action at home against Franklin on Monday. The girls are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., with the boys started directly after.
The Wildcats will then travel to Highlands on Tuesday, with the girls starting at 6:30 p.m. and the boys tipping off right after.
