Black Mountain – For the second meet of the season for two local teams, they competed in an invitational meet at Montreat College.
Andrews and Murphy competed in the second meet of the season, while Tri-County Early College made its season debut Friday afternoon.
Andrews
Logan Patrick was the Wildcats’ highest finisher, earning third place in boys shot put. Also in boys field events, Caleb Helton came in seventh place in high jump, while AJ Johnson came in seventh place in long jump.
Christian Helton came in eighth place in triple jump, while Patrick also came in 10th in discus to round out the top-10 Andrews finishers in the boys field events.
Jayce Donaldson was their highest finisher in the track events, finishing fourth in the 1,600-meter run.
In the 100m dash, Phisher Baxter came in 16th. In the 200m dash, Johnson came in 18th. In the 400m dash, Caleb Helton came in 17th.
In the 110m hurdles, Korbin Hicks came in 14th. Chase Beasley came in 15th in the 300m hurdles to round out their top finishers in the boys track events.
For the girls, their relay teams earned respective top-five finishes.
The 4x100m relay team came in fourth, while the 4x200m relay team came in fifth place.
Earning top-10 finishes were Jaden Crocker (seventh in discus) and Marley Blackwell (ninth in triple jump).
Top finishers in the girls track events were Juliet Holloway in 12th in the 100m dash, Marissa Conti in 18th in the 200m dash and Yesenia Hernandez in 15th in the 400m dash.
Murphy
The Bulldogs sent one athlete to meet, as Trenton Cook competed in two field events. He came in ninth place in shot put and 12th place in discus.
Tri-County
The Jaguars made their season debut at the meet with mixed results.
Their highest finishers were the boys 4x800m relay team and Fern Crayton in the 1,600m run, with both coming in 11th place in the respective events.
Crayton also came in 13th in the girls 800m run, while Sophia Smith came in 14th and Bryanna Jaime came in 18th.
Jaime came in 26th in the 400m dash, with Kadeesha Sudderth coming in 31st in the same event. Sudderth also came in 29th in the 200m dash.
For the boys, Gage Hardin came in 47th in the 100m dash and 32nd in the 200m dash. Also in the 200m dash, Leo Henningfeld came in 32nd and Julian Arvizu finished 34th.
Arvizu also came in 36th in the 400m dash. Mason Smith came in 33rd in the 1,600m run and 34th in the 800m run.
Meanwhile, the boys 4x200m relay team came in 15th place.
Up next
Cherokee County will host two conference meets today. Andrews will host Tri-County Early College and other Smoky Mountain Conference schools, while Murphy hosts Hiwassee Dam as well as other conference schools.
Both meets start with field events at 3:30 p.m. today. Following the field events and relays, the track events will take place in a rolling format.
