Track heads to Montreat for 2nd meet

Montreat – Tack and field teams from Andrews High School and Tri-County Early College headed to their second meet of the season at Montreat College on March 14.

William Wood of Andrews got first place in the discus event. In the triple jump, Andrews’ Kylie Donaldson and Myca Mustin both got second place.

Tri-County’s girls 4x800-meter relay team came in fifth place in the event.

Wildcat athletes who came in the top 10 in their events include Donaldson with a seventh-place finish in long jump, Jaden Crocker in fifth in discus and Demi Davis in ninth in discus. Davis also came in eighth in shot put. Beth Shook came in eighth in triple jump.

The girls 4x800m relay came in sixth, the 4x200m girls relay came in eighth and their 4x100m girls relay came in 10th.

For the boys, Caleb Helton came in ninth in high jump. Along with Wood and Mustin, Helton was the only other boy with a top-10 finish from Andrews.

Andrews female athletes with top-20 finishes include Donaldson who came in 11th in the 100m dash, Juliet Holloway who came in 15th in 200m dash and Mattie Mustin with a 17th-place finish in the 100m hurdles.

Also with a top-20 finish were Mattie Mustin coming in 19th in the 300m hurdles, Crocker coming in 20th in the 300m hurdles, Kimber Vaught in 13th in the high jump and Emma McLelland coming in 20th in shot put.

For the boys with a top-20 finish, Isaac Patrick came in 15th in the 100m dash, Myca Mustin came in 16th in the 400m dash, Braydon Garrett came in 18th in the 110m hurdles, Aj Johnson came in 16th and Will Phillips came in 20th in the long jump. Johnson came in 16th in triple jump, while Wood came in 11th in the shot put.

Tri-County

Other than the girls 4x800m relay team, the boys 4x800m relay team came in eighth place, and Fern Crayton came in 10th in the 800m run to round out their athletes in the top 10.

Crayton also got 14th in the 400m dash to round out their athletes with top-20 finishes.

Andrews is hosting the first Smoky Mountain Conference meet of the season today. The throwing events and girls 4x800m relay will kick off the meet at 3:30 p.m. and the rest of the events will follow on a rolling schedule. Andrews will host all the teams in the SMC, as well as Rosman.
