Track & field teams in Cherokee County earn event wins at 2 meets

Body

Varsity track & field teams competed in Smoky Mountain Conference competition at Cherokee and Robbinsville high schools.

Andrews and Tri-County Early College, as well as Carolina Mountain XC competed in Robbinsville.

Murphy and Hiwassee Dam competed at a SMC meet in Cherokee.

Both meets took place simultaneously on March 25.


 

Andrews

Multiple Wildcats earned first place finishes in their events from sprints to hurdles and relays and field events.

Girls earning first place finishes were Juliet Holloway in the 200-meter dash and Kaiya Ellis in the 100m dash and high jump. The girls 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams earned first place finishes.

Ellis also finished second in the triple jump.

Multiple Andrews girls also had top-five finishes in their events.

Marissa Conti got third in the 100m hurdles and fourth in the 200m dash.

Riley Thompson got fifth in both the 400m dash and 100m hurdles. She also got third in long jump.

Soriah Cortes came in second in long jump. Marley Blackwell came in third in the triple jump.

Beth Beasley came in third in shot put and fifth in discus. Azlyn DeHart came in fifth in shot put.

On the boys side, they had two first place finishers as defending state champion Logan Shuler came in first in high jump. Logan Patrick came in first place in discus.

The boys also had multiple top five finishes in various events.

Phisher Baxter came in fourth in the 100m dash and Isaac Patrick came in fifth in the 200m dash.

In the 400m dash, Myca Mustin came in fourth and Atticus Patrick came in fifth.

In the 1,600m run, Elliott Salinas came in second place.

For the boys relays, the 4x100m and 4x400m teams both came in second, while the 4x200m team came in third.

In field events, Logan Patrick also came in second in the shot put. 

Caleb Helton came in second in the high jump behind Shuler.

In the long jump, AJ Johnson came in second. Mustin also came in second in the triple jump, while Christian Helton came in third.

Brayden Helton came in fifth in the discus to round out Andrews’ top five finishes.


 

Tri-County

Tri-County Early College also competed at the meet in Robbinsville earning multiple top-five finishes.

The girls 4x800m relay team got the Jaguar’s only first place finish at the meet.

Their girls 4x400m relay team came in second place.

Fern Crayton came in second in the 1,600m run and third in the 800m run.

Kadeesha Sudderth came in fourth in the 400m run and Sophia Smith came in fourth in the 800m run.

For the boys, Mason Smith came in second in the 3,200m run.

In the 800m run, Julian Arvizu came in fifth.

The boys 4x800m relay team came in third and the 4x400m team came in fourth.


 

Carolina Mountain XC

Carolina Mountain XC is a home school running team based in Murphy.

The team sent three athletes to the meet in Robbinsville.

Macy Skirvin came in third place in the 100m dash and seventh in the 200m dash.

Rachel Carver came in fourth in the 1,600m run and fifth in the 800m run.

Rebecca Carver came in fifth in the 1600m and sixth in the 800m runs.


 

Murphy

The Bulldogs competed in Cherokee on March 25 and had multiple athletes win multiple events.

Cale Harger came in first place in long jump and triple jump. Camden Breazeale came in first in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

CJ Yarbro came in first in the girls long jump and triple jump.

Ryan Payne also got first place in the boys 400m dash and the boys 4x400m relay took first place.

The Dogs also had multiple top five finishes for the boys and girls teams.

For the girls, Rylee Tabor came in second and Bella Kent came in fifth in the 100m dash. Tabor also got second in the 200m dash.

Rylei Howard came in third in the 400m dash.

Valorie Jordan came in third in the 100m hurdles and fifth in the 300m hurdles. She also came in fourth in the triple jump.

The girls 4x800m relay team came in second and the 4x100m relay team came in fourth.

Kent also came in second in high jump, while Kinlee Herr came in fourth.

Amelia Joyner came in third in shot put and fourth in discus. Ansley Roper came in fifth in discus.

For the boys, Payne also came in fifth in the 200m dash.

Grayson Hall came in fourth in the 1600m run and second in high jump.

For boys relays, the 4x800m team came in second and the 4x100m and 4x200m teams both came in third.

Breazeale also came in second in shot put, while Trenton Cook came in fifth.

Cook also came in third in discus. Remy Staple came in fifth in long jump to round out their top five finishes at the meet.


 

Hiwassee Dam

For the Eagles, Maverick Hawley ran well, earning their only first place finish. He came in first in the 3200m run, as well as second in the 1600m and third in the 800m run.

Also for the Eagles boys, Johnathan Bennett came in 17th in discus and 19th in shot put.

Brandon Bishop came in 16th in shot put and 19th in discus.

For the Lady Eagles, Avery Freemon got their highest finish after she came in fifth place in the 1600m run.

Freemon also came in sixth in the 800m run.

Kaitlyn Lecoq came in seventh in long jump and 10th in the 100m dash.

Bella Krauter-Fabrizi came in 10th in the 200m dash, 11th in long jump and 19th in shot put.

Sarah Stock came in 11th in discus and 12th in shot put.

Hailee Barney came in 11th in the 100m dash and 15th in the 800m run.
