Track & field competes in Cherokee, Hayesville

All four high school track and field teams were in action last week, as Murphy and Hiwassee Dam competed in Cherokee, while Andrews and Tri-County Early College competed in Hayesville on March 26.

In their second conference meet of the season, Murphy and Hiwassee Dam traveled to Cherokee.

In the boys team points, Murphy came in second place with 151 points and Hiwassee Dam came in fifth with 60 points.

In the girls team points, Murphy came in third place with 96 points and Hiwassee Dam came in seventh with 15 points.

In the boys track events, Blake Davis of Murphy came in first in the 200-meter dash, Maverick Hawley of Hiwassee Dam came in first in the 3,200m run, Camden Breazeale of Murphy came in first in the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles. Hiwassee Dam also came in first in the 4x800m relay.

In the boys field events, Cale Harger of Murphy came in first in the long jump.

In the girls track events, Corrine Cotton of Murphy came in first in the 400m dash.

In the girls field events, Marley Blackwell of Murphy came in first in the triple jump.

Boys athletes with top-five finishes in track events include Chandler Nernes and Blake Davis of Murphy came in second and third, respectively, in the 100m dash. Brody McFaddin of Murphy came in second in the 400m dash, Ethan Russell of Hiwassee Dam came in second in the 800m run, and Russell came in second and Oscar Page of Hiwassee Dam came in third in the 1,600m run. Heath Chastain also came in fifth in the 3,200m run.

Ryan Morrow and Gabriel Reaner came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 110m hurdles.

In boys relays, Murphy came in second and fourth with their two teams in the 4x100m, Murphy came in second in the 4x200m, Murphy came in second and fourth in the 4x400m, and the Dogs came in fourth in the 4x800m.

Boys field athletes with top-five finishes include Jonah Dockery of Hiwassee Dam, who came in second in the high jump; and Grayson Hall and Kenyon Nichols of Murphy, who came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the high jump.

Dockery came in second and Breazeale came in fifth in the long jump. Anthony Catuto of Murphy came in fourth in the triple jump. Charlie Graves ad Aaron Harger of Murphy came in second and fourth in the shot put.

Girls with top-five finishes in the track events include Rylee Tabor and Blackwell of Murphy finishes third and fifth, respectively, in the 100m dash. Tabor also finished in third in the 200m dash. Avery Freemon of Hiwassee Dam came in fourth in the 800m run. Freemon also came in fifth in the 1,600m.

Sadie Cornwell of Murphy came in third in the 100m hurdles.

In the relay’s, Murphy came in second place in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x800m.

In the field events, Ansley Roper of Murphy came in second in pole vault, Amelia Joyner of Murphy came in third and Roper came in fifth in the discus, and Joyner came in fourth and Sarah Stock of Hiwassee Dam came in fifth in the shot put.

Andrews, TCEC

At the same time, Andrews and Tri-County Early College’s track and field teams competed at Hayesville.

Boys winning their events include, William Boyd of TCEC in the 400m dash, Chase Beasley of Andrews in the 100m hurdles, Logan Shuler of Andrews in high jump, Kegan Ellis of Andrews in the long jump, Myca Mustin of Andrews in triple jump and William Wood of Andrews in discus.

Girls winning their events include, Kylie Donaldson of Andrews in the 100m dash, Fern Crayton of TCEC in the 1,600m and 3,200m, Kaiya Ellis of Andrews in the 100m hurdles and high jump, Donaldson in long jump and triple jump and Alexis Beasley in shot put.

Boys with top-five finishes include Boyd in fifth in the 100m dash, Will Phillips in third and Caleb Helton of Andrews in fourth in the 200m dash, and Myca Mustin in second in the 400m dash.

Elias Diaz-Menchu came in third and Mason Smith came in fourth in the 800m, Jacob Gonzalez of TCEC came in third in the 1,600m, while Landon Spies of TCEC came in second in the 3,200m.

Braydon Garrett of Andrews came in third in the 110m hurdles and second in the 200m hurdles.

In the relay events, Andrews boys came in second in the 4x100m, third in the 4x200m and third in the 4x400m. TCEC came in fourth and fifth in the 4x400m and second in the 4x800m.

Helton came in third in the high jump, Aj Johnson came in third and Helton came in fourth in the long jump, Kegan Ellis came in second in the triple jump, Logan Patrick came in fourth in discus and Wood came in second, Patrick came in fourth and Kincaide Watkins came in fifth in shot put.

Girls with top-five finishes include Allie Gibson of Andrews came in fifth in the 100m dash, Beth Shook of Andrews came in fifth in the 200m dash, and Khloe Mayfield of Andrews came in second and Juliet Holloway came in third in the 400m dash.

Catherine Gonzalez of TCEC came in fourth in the 800m run. Mattie Mustin and Lauren Cochran of Andrews came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100m hurdles. Mattie Mustin and Jaden Crocker of Andrews came in third and fifth, respectively, in the 300m hurdles.

In the girls relays, Andrews came in first and third in the 4x100m, second and third in the 4x200m, first in the 4x400m and second in the 4x800m. TCEC came in third in the 4x400m and third in the 4x800m.

Kimber Vaught of Andrews came in second in the high jump. Shook and Holloway came in second and third, respectively, in the long jump and Jaden Crocker came in fifth in long jump.

Kaiya Ellis came in second, while Shook came in third in the triple jump. Crocker came in second and Demi Davis of Andrews came in fourth in the discus. Davis came in second and Azlyn DeHart came in fifth in the shot put.

Up next

Andrews and TCEC will head to Robbinsville for a meet at 3:30 p.m. today. Also today at 3:30 p.m., Murphy will host a meet, and Hiwassee Dam will compete in it.

Today’s meets are the last before spring break.
