County swimmers score points for team
Franklin – The Cherokee County Aquatic Club returned to Macon County on Thursday and brought home good results for the visiting team.
The swim team was a bit short due to illness and team members being on vacation, but those who swam in the meet earned podium finishes. The Cherokee County squad competed against Franklin and the Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club on Thursday.
Natalie Lawrence earned two first-place finishes in the girls 11-12 age group. She came in first in the 50-meter freestyle and the 50m backstroke, and second in the 50m breaststroke.
Lorelei Whitney had one first place and two second-place finishes in the girls 9-10 age group. She came in first place in the 50m freestyle, while her second-place finishes were in the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.
Fern Crayton had a first- and second-place finish in the girls 15-18 age group. Her first-place finish came in the 100m breaststroke, and she finished second in the 50m freestyle.
Ada Lovelace, who also competes in the girls 15-18 age group, came in fifth place in the 100m backstroke.
For the boys, three swimmers earned seven first-place finishes.
Connor Whitney earned four first-places finishes in the 13-14 age group. He came in first place in the 200m individual medley, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.
Maxx Colandrea had two first-place and two second-place finishes, coming in first in the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. He also came in second place in both the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
Mateo Colandrea had one first-place finish, two second-place finishes and a third-place finish. He came in first in the 50m freestyle; his second places finishes came in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle; and he finished third in the 100m breaststroke.
Oceana Vaughn and Bryanna Ramirez-Jamie swam their best times, but did not score points for the team because they placed outside of the top five.
The Cherokee County Aquatic Club returned to the pool for a home meet after the Cherokee Scout’s press time Tuesday. Results will be published in the July 9 edition.
