Cheer camp is next week
The Andrews High School varsity cheerleaders are hosting a summer mini-camp for rising second-graders through eighth-graders from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, July 23-25, in the Andrews High gym.
The camp costs $30 and includes a T-shirt.
Participants will learn chant, dance, stunt, pyramid, jumps and tumbling. Campers should wear a T-shirt, gym shorts, tennis shoes and bring a water bottle. A parent performance will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25.

FRANKLIN
New records, strong swims
The Cherokee County Aquatic Club swam well in the conference championship on July 13.
Conor Whitney, who swims in the 13-14 age group, broke two records in the 200-meter individual medley and 100m backstroke. Sophia Evans also had a great performance by qualifying for the AAU Junior Olympics in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
A total of 10 aquatic club swimmers qualified for the All-Star meet, which will be held Saturday in Jackson County.
The following qualified in four events: Sophia Evans, Natalie Lowrance, Lorelei Whitney, Max Colandrea, Mateo Colandrea, Jasher Godsey, Connor Whitney and Elijah Whitney. In addition, Estelle Vaughn and Isaac Vaught qualified in three events.
Head coach Frank Bachteler said that he wanted to shout-out the swim team’s parents for their help in hosting a home meet on July 9.
MURPHY
Cycle NC volunteers
From Aug. 2-4, the Cycle North Carolina Mountain Ride will be happening in Murphy and Cherokee County, bringing more than 300 bicyclists from multiple states to the area.
They are looking for volunteers to help with rider check-in, community welcome informations, rest stop support and other miscellaneous things. You do not need to be a cyclists to help out.
The volunteer shift is a few hours, and they are not asking for an all-day commitment. All volunteers will receives a CycleNC T-shirt.

MURPHY
Scout team has tryouts
The USA Scout travel baseball team will be holding final tryouts Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19 at Konehete Veterans Park. USA Scout has teams for ages 9u-15u.
Ages 9u-11u will be from noon-2 p.m., 12u-13u will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and 14u-15u will be 5-7 p.m. The times for each age group will be the same each day.
USA Scout is a travel baseball team that competes at a high level, leading to high school baseball preparation and college opportunities. This is the first year they are doing tryouts since opening a location in Murphy, which is their first location outside of Georgia and Florida.
