Final stamp of waterfowl
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission announced that the 40th and final edition of the waterfowl print stamp its available online at the N.C. Wild Store while supplies last. Prints of the design will cost $135 plus tax, a mint stamp will be $14 plus tax and an adhesive stamp will be $14 plus tax.
The stamp and print program was started in 1983 to help generate additional revenue for waterfowl conservation in the state. However, the commission made the difficult decision to end the program this year as interest in the prints has declined.

Dove hunting season opens
Hunting season for mourning and white-winged doves opens Sept. 3. The season has three separate segments: Sept. 3 through Oct. 1, Nov. 5-26 and Dec. 10 through Jan. 31.
The daily bag limit is 15 mourning or white-winged doves, and shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. Hunting is not allowed on Sundays, and shotguns for dove hunting cannot include more than three shells.
Migratory game bird hunters, including lifetime license holders, are required to register in the federal Harvest Information Program, which is a survey by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service used to collect estimates for harvests throughout the country. Hunters should also know that it’s a violation of state and federal law to hunt migratory game birds with the use or aid of salt, grain, fruit or any other bait.
RALEIGH
Second CWD case in N.C.
A second case of Chronic Wasting Disease was discovered in a deer one mile from where the first CWD-positive deer was discovered in Yadkin County in December 2021. The disease can spread through saliva, urine and feces of live deer, or the movement of deer carcasses and carcass part, according to the N.C. Wildlife Resources
Commission.
Since the disease is highly transmissible, officials are recommending disposing of deer remains in certain ways when hunting season starting Sept. 10.
Officials recommend either burying the deer where you harvest when possible, double bagging the deer for disposal at the closest landfill or leaving the deer remains on the ground where it was harvested.
