AMS falls in title tilt
The Andrews Middle School girls basketball team fell 57-49 to Cherokee in the Smoky Mountain Conference championship game Saturday at home.
After being tied at 8 through the opening quarter, Cherokee took the lead and held on for the remainder of the game to get the win.
Leading Andrews was Reagan Adams with a double-double. She had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Hadley Adams had 18 points against Cherokee.
BASKETBALL
Hawks earn win on road
The Nantahala varsity basketball teams split its Little Smoky Mountain Conference games during the two-game week.
The Lady Hawks fell on the road to Blue Ridge Early College 69-48 on Jan. 13, then lost to Highlands 56-14 on Friday on the road again.
The boys defeated Blue Ridge Early College on the road 62-49 for a second straight conference win.
They will return to action at home Friday against Robbinsville. The girls will play at 6 p.m., with the boys playing right after.
BASEBALL
Little league signups open
Registration is open for the Blue Ridge Mountain Little League 2026 season until Jan. 31.
T-ball, baseball and softball teams are available and are open to both boys and girls. A birth certificate is also required for registration.
Non-competitive T-ball and competitive T-ball for ages 3-6 is $48.
Meanwhile, 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U baseball and softball is $88.
