Cats compete in Cherokee
The Andrews winter track team competed against Cherokee, Rosman and Swain County on Dec. 9 as Cherokee hosted its first meet of the season.
The Cats had multiple first-place finishes during the meet. Natalie Garrett came in first in the 55-meter dash, AJ Johnson came in first in long jump and Christian Helton came in first in the triple jump.
Garrett also came in second in long jump and eighth in shot put. Multiple boys also had finishes inside the top three.
In 55m dash, Isaac Patrick came in second. In the 500m dash, Helton came in third and Atticus Patrick came in third. Isaac Vaught came in second in the 55m hurdles and the boys 4x200m relay came in second. Logan Patrick also came in second in shot put.
BASKETBALL
Clark makes college debut
Ty Clark of Andrews made his collegiate basketball debut Thursday night.
The Union University player contributed to the 92-60 win over Blue Mountain Christian University.
Clark had two points off the bench and was 1/2 from the field. He contributed to Union’s 45 points off the bench in the game.
BASKETBALL
Hawks fall to Jackets
The Nantahala varsity basketball teams closed out their week by hosting the Hayesville Yellow Jackets.
The boys fell 70-50, while the girls also lost to the Yellow Jackets on Friday night.
Before winter break, the Hawks will travel to Robbinsville to face the Black Knights on Thursday. The girls start at 6 p.m., while the boys will play right after.
When they return from break, the Hawks will face Murphy on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
