WINTER TRACK

Cats run in Franklin

The Andrews indoor track team competed in their second meet of the season on Dec. 3.

Lady Wildcat Natalie Garrett competed in four events. She came in fourth place in triple jump, seventh in long jump, 10th in the 55-meter dash and 12th in shot put.

In shot put, Logan Patrick earned the Cats’ lone first place. The 4x200m relay team came in second. In long jump, AJ Johnson came in third place, while Caleb Helton came in ninth. In triple jump, Christian Helton came in third.

Andrews athletes who finished in the top 15 were Christian Helton in 11th in long jump, Isaac Patrick in 12th in the 55m dash; and Wade Tatham in 14th in shot put.

BASKETBALL

Hawks play tough teams

Nantahala returned to the court with a three-game week against Shining Rock Classical Academy, Copper Basin, Tenn., and Cherokee.

The Hawks kicked off a five-game slate on the road against Shining Rock on Dec. 2. The Hawks split with the Falcons, as the boys won 75-50 and the girls lost 42-35.

On Thursday, Nantahala traveled to face Copper Basin. The boys lost a close game 72-69, while the girls lost 105-12.

The Hawks wrapped up their week by facing Cherokee. Nantahala was swept, as the boys fell 71-35 and the girls lost 92-16.

SWIMMING

Jags swim in Franklin

The Tri-County Early College swim team was back in the pool Saturday in Franklin, finishing in fourth place overall.

Three swimmers had consideration times for regionals. Sophia Evans in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and Robert Kominowski in the 100-yard freestyle.

The boys 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams had consideration times for Regionals. The team had many high finishes, with almost everyone earning a top 10.

The Jaguars swim team will return to the pool at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, when they host the eighth Candy Cane Invitational at Murphy Health & Fitness. Admission is $8, with ages 12 and under free for the event.

WRESTLING

Xmas Bash on Saturday

The American Championship Wrestling Federation returns to the Peachtree Community Center on Saturday night for an action-packed year-end event.

Many hard-hitting matches will take place when ACWF superstars get in the ring. Frodo, MD King, Flex Ferguson, Kevin Seiber, Thundercat, Mike Clay, KZito, The Family and more will be in action.

The show will be held in the center at 125 Memory Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under.

OUTDOORS

Virtual class from NCWRC

The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is hosting a series of virtual courses on fishing in December.

From 6-8 p.m. today, the commission is teaching a virtual class on rod building primer. On Wednesday, Dec. 17, the state will be hosting a class on fly-fishing basics like how to read a trout stream from 6-8 p.m.

Both courses will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams.
