BASKETBALL

Hawks split with Rosman

In their last game before Thanksgiving, the Nantahala varsity basketball teams hosted Rosman.

In their first game of the season against a Big Smoky Mountain Conference opponent, the boys won and the girls lost.

The girls started the evening with a 59-29 loss. Then the boys followed that up with a 87-47 win for their third straight victory.

The Hawks will be back in action Friday on the road against Cherokee. The girls will start at 6 p.m., and the boys will play directly after.

SHOOTING

Win a rifle challenge

A “Know Your Limits 22LR Rifle Challenge” will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Allen’s Garage Private Range, 955 Settawig Road, to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Treatment Foundation.

This is a fun event in which participants shoot at different distances and decide when to stop. If they stop without missing, they keep all their points and move forward to the next level. However if they miss, they lose all their points. Hence, the “Know Your Limits” name.

There will be several categories depending on age and on rifle used. Each category winner gets a trophy.

Last, but not least, there will be a 50:50 round, where the winner gets 50% of the pot of the funds collected for that category. All proceeds will fund programs to help children undergoing cancer treatments.

Cost is $15 per shooter per class, $30 per shooter in the 50:50 round.
