Hawks earn more wins

The Nantahala Hawks started their week with the girls hosting Macon Early College and the boys facing Mountain Area Christian Academy.

The boys and girls notched wins Thursday night. The boys defeated MACA 80-65, while the girls beat Macon Early College 55-36.

On Friday, they hosted Shining Rock to close out their first two-game week. The boys got a huge win 91-61, while the girls fell 50-28.

Many receive SMC honors

All-Conference honors were announced for Smoky Mountain Conference boys soccer, and each team had a player named to the All-Conference team.

From SMC championship-winning Murphy, Elijah Twiggs was named SMC Player of the Year. Earning All-Conference honors were Cale Harger, Tyler Payne and Jerry Bui.

From Andrews, Gabe Clark earned All-Conference honors, while Myca Mustin and Ethan Barton were honorable mentions.

From Tri-County Early College, goalkeeper Julian Arvizu earned All-Conference honors.

SWIMMING

Team back in the pool

The Tri-County Early College swim team returned to the pool Saturday in Franklin. Both the boys and girls teams finished in second place overall.

For the girls, both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay came in second place. Fern Crayton came in second place in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophia Evans came in third in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.

For the boys, both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay came in second place. Elias Diaz-Menchu came in third place in the 100-yard breastroke and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Leo Henningfled came in second in the 100-yard backstroke. Robbie Kominowski came in second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Winter starts up in Swain

The 2025-26 winter track season kicked off as the Andrews Wildcats headed to Swain County.

Logan Patrick earned first place in the shot put. Also in shot put, Ayden Reeves came in fourth place and Lucius Day came in eighth. In long jump, AJ Johnson came in second, while Caleb Helton also came in second in the high jump.

In running events, Elliott Salinas came in third in the 1,600-meter run. Helton came in fifth in the 300-meter dash, and Isaac Patrick came in sixth in the 55-meter dash, as the Wildcats’ highest finishers in each event.

In the girls events, Natalie Garrett came in second place in long jump, third in triple jump and 13th in the 55-meter dash.
