Jaguars play championship

The Tri-County Early College women’s golf team headed to Sequoyah National Golf Club in Cherokee and Connestee Falls Golf Club in Brevard for the Smoky Mountain Conference championship on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.

In the first round at Sequoyah, Madison Deren shot 54 and shot 58 in the second round at Connestee Falls. Her total of 112 earned her an All-Conference honorable mention.

Ruby Kuykendall shot 58 in the first round and 62 in the second round. She shot 120 across the two rounds.

They combined for a team score of 232 after the two-round SMC championship to wrap up the season.

WRESTLING

New champs in steel cage

Fans were treated to another sold-out show with eight matches at the American Championship Wrestling Federation’s “Rage in a Cage,” where all the matches took place in a steel cage Saturday night.

Digger James and Moki dethrones KZito for the tag-team championship. They faced off with The Family in a three-way tag match.

In a hard-hitting rematch, Killshot defeated Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles after escaping the steel cage.

James Xero defeated Adrian Hernandez and Axel Gunn defeated Void. Robert Starr defeated Zach Moore, Flex Ferguson defeated American Standard and Kevin Seiber defeated Frodo in action-packed matches.

RACING

Locals win latest race

Drivers returned to Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown on Saturday night with $1,000 to win in the Crown Vic division. Alex Vance of Waynesville took home the prize in the Crown Vic division.

In 602 crate late models, Cooper Twiggs of Murphy got the win. In street stocks, Toby Singleton of Waynesville got the win. Jacob Parris of Epworth, Ga., got the win in 604 crate late model.

Drew Deaver of McCayesville, Ga., got the win in the limited late model division. Brawley Stillwell of Andrews got the win in open wheel modified. Josh Munoz of Blairsville, Ga., got the win in the front wheel drive division.

They will return to the track on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26.
