Holloway in portal

Tucker Holloway of Andrews announced Thursday that he will be leaving Virginia Tech and exploring opportunities through the transfer portal.

Holloway played wide receiver and punt returner at Virginia Tech and will be red shirting the remainder of this season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

“To coach Pry, thank you for giving me an opportunity. To my teammates who became my brothers, thank you for the countless memories that I will cherish long after my time in Blacksburg,” Holloway said in a statement released on social media.

Holloway has played in three season for the Hokies in 2022-23 and 2025.

WRESTLING

‘Rage in a Cage’ coming

The American Championship Wrestling Federation is returning to the Peachtree Community Center, 125 Memory Lane, for Rage in a Cage on Saturday night.

All matches will be held inside a steel cage, and championship titles will be on the line in an action-packed night.

In action will be ACWF superstars Frodo, Flex Ferguson, Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles, Killshot, Axel Freakin’ Gunn, MD King, Digger James, The Family, KZito, Billy Havoc and more.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12, and free for ages 5 and under.

EQUESTRIAN

Olympians earn medals

Cherokee County athletes competed in the Special Olympics North Carolina equestrian tournament on Sept. 19-21 at Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring.

Nathan Young won the gold medal in dressage. Young also earned a silver medal in working trails and bronze medal in English equitation.

Emma Johnson and Christina Zimmerer both won two silver medals each. Both won silver in English equitation, while Johnson also earned a silver in dressage and Zimmerer picked up a silver in working trails.

Keisha Licatta won

bronze medals in dressage and English equitation, while Johnson also got a bronze in working trails, Zimmerer got a bronze in dressage, and Licatta won a fourth-place ribbon in working trails.
