Fall sports

Fall sports are set to kick off today with the first day of practice, as set by the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

Football can hold their first scrimmage Friday, Aug. 8, and first regular-season game Friday, Aug. 22. The bracket is announced Saturday, Nov. 1, with the first round of the state playoffs Friday, Nov. 7, and state championship games Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13.

Volleyball, cross country and boys soccer can have their first game or meet Monday, Aug. 11. The state championships for both volleyball and cross-country are Nov. 1.

The first round of the state playoffs is Saturday, Oct. 18, for volleyball and Monday, Nov. 3, for boys soccer. Cross-country regionals will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, while the boys soccer state championships are set  Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22.

 

RODEO

Cowboys

in Andrews

 

The Great American Rodeo Co. is returning to Andrews to bring their bulls and broncs back to The Valley on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8-9.

The rodeo is returning to Andrews for a third year and will be held at Heritage Park. Rodeo events such as saddle bronc, bareback, barrel racing, bull riding and mutton busting will take place.

WRESTLING

ACWF back

on Saturday

 

The American Championship Wrestling Federation is returning to the Peachtree Community Center on Saturday night.

The “Summer Showdown” will see fan-favorite ACWF superstars return to the ring in front of the lively crowd. In action will be tag team champs KZito, Frodo, Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles, Killshot, Axel Freakin’ Gunn, Billy Havoc, Rusty Rogers, Flex Ferguson, Moki, James Xero and many more.

Doors are at 6 p.m., while the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under.

 

PICKLEBALL

MHS hosts

pickle event

 

The Murphy High School Bulldog Club is hosting a pickleball tournament on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Konehete Veterans Park.

The cost is $40 per team with mens, women’s and mixed doubles competition to be played. All schools and ages are welcome to compete in the tournament.

There will be prizes for the winners in each group. Donations are also accepted.
