RACING
Cars set to return
Due to inclement weather, the race scheduled for June 13 at Tri-County Racetrack was canceled and will be made up later.
Cars will return to the track Friday, June 27, for the Best Plumber 604 race. It is the series’ only race in North Carolina during the 2025 season. It’ll be a fast night of racing as 604 Late Models hit the dirt track in Brasstown.
On July 4, Super Late Models are scheduled to hit the track for the first time this season.
SWIMMING
Local youth make waves
Local Cherokee County youth swimmers competed at a meet in Highlands over the weekend. Only half the meet happened as storms rolled in and cancelled the meet.
Opi Whitney came in first in the 25-meter freestyle, Lorelei Whitney finished first in the 50m freestyle and Connor Whitney was first in the 50m freestyle.
Elijah Whitney came in second in the 50m freestyle and first in the boys 9-10 in the 100m individual medley. Maxx Colandrea came in first in the boys 11-12 100m individual medley and second in the 50m freestyle.
Estelle Vaughn came in fifth in the 50m freestyle, Sophia Evans came in third in the 50m freestyle and Bryanna Ramirez-Jaime competed in her first 200m individual medley.
GOLF
Bulldogs teeing off
The Murphy High School Bulldog Club is hosting its 32nd annual golf tournament Saturday, June 28, at Old Union Golf Club in Blairsville, Ga.
The format is a three-man Texas scramble and will tee off at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $85 per person to participate.

CHEER
AHS hosts cheer camp
Andrews High School is hosting a youth cheerleading camp Monday through Wednesday, July 14-16, in the gym from 5-6:30 p.m. each day.
The camp is open to first- through eighth-graders looking to learn or refresh their skills in cheerleading. Cost is $35 per person to participate.
