FOOTBALL
Year of the road Dogs

    Murphy High School varsity football announced the Bulldogs’ 2025 schedule on May 29, which features six away games and five home games.
    The five home games are against conference opponents Rosman, Robbinsville, Hayesville and Swain County, as well as non-conference opponent East Surry.
    The road contests include scrimmage against TC Roberson on Aug. 15 and the regular-season opener against Franklin on Aug. 22, which will be played at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee. Other away games include trips to Heard County, Ga., AC Reynolds, Cherokee and Andrews.
    The game against Rosman on Oct. 3 will be homecoming, while the final regular season home game against Hayesville on Oct. 24 will be Senior Night.

AHS has even split

    The Andrews varsity football team announced the Wildcats’ 2025 schedule with an even split of home and away games.
    The Cats will open their 2025 campaign with two scrimmages. They travel to Copper Basin, Tenn., on Aug. 8, then host North Buncombe on Aug. 15.
    For home games, Andrews will host Mitchell, Anderson Cavaliers, Rosman, Murphy and Cherokee. The Cats will travel to take on Madison, Smoky Mountain, Swain, Robbinsville and Hayesville.

WRESTLING
ACWF kicks off summer

    The American Championship Wrestling Federation is set to return to the Peachtree Community Center, 125 Memory Lane, on Saturday night to kick off the hot months with a “Summer Straps” show. 
    Set to be in ring action are Frodo, Flex Ferguson, Kevin Seiber, Killshot, Axel Freakin’ Gunn, Mountain Man Jeremy Stiles and Digger James.
    Doors are at 6 p.m., while the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under.

Calling all MHS alumni

    Murphy High School will host an alumni football game against a squad of Swain County Maroon Devils at 8 p.m. Saturday on David Gentry Field in Bob Hendrix Stadium.
    Get a chance to relive one of the biggest rivalries in the history of the Smoky Mountain Conference.

SOCCER
Murphy hosts soccer camp

    Murphy High School will be hosting a soccer camp from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 16-18.
    The camp is for kids ages 5 through rising ninth-graders. The camp costs $60.
    It will be at the practice field behind Lowe’s in Murphy. Every participant will get a Murphy soccer T-shirt.

VOLLEYBALL
AHS hosts volley camp

    Andrews High School is hosting a youth volleyball camp Monday and Tuesday, June 17-18, in the gym. 
    The camp costs $40 and is for rising third- through eighth-graders. Players will strengthen their basic fundamentals, develop proper skills, mechanics and gain knowledge of game-play experiences.
    The camp is led by Andrews High coaches and players. Rising third- through fifth-graders will be from 9-10:30 a.m., while rising sixth- through eighth-graders will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
